<strong>JOB</strong> <strong>DESCRIPTION</strong><strong>POSITION</strong>:SUPERVISED BY:SUPERVISES:STATUS:HOURS:<strong>Volunteer</strong> <strong>Coordinator</strong>Director of <strong>Volunteer</strong> ServicesNoneFull-Time; Exempt8:00 am-4:30 pm, Monday-Friday (occasional evenings and weekends)<strong>POSITION</strong> SUMMARY: Coordinate day-to-day functions of SHH’s volunteer work force. Tasksinclude volunteer recruitment and outreach, scheduling, group orientation, recognition, and datamanagement. Build and maintain positive working relationships utilizing strong communicationskills, a positive attitude and mutual respect for others.DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Respond do group volunteer inquiries and assist with scheduling functions Learn in-depth the volunteer management system to effectively utilize as a work tool Provide administrative support as needed Greet and orient volunteer groups Manage the volunteer pools for School Pantry program Help develop and carry out volunteer outreach plan for the school Pantry Program and allother volunteer opportunities at Second Harvest Heartland Market SHH volunteer opportunities to key audiences in a manner that is accurate andappealing to potential volunteers Serve as go-between for volunteers and staff with whom they will work, Monitor in-housevolunteers for smooth start-up and overall well-being Initiate and cultivate key relationships with volunteer-rich organizations and organizationalcontacts Seek best practice knowledge around volunteer administration by networking with otherfood banks and volunteer organizations Help develop and uphold <strong>Volunteer</strong> Services Policy and Procedure manual Research, develop, implement and manage new programs and initiativesBEHAVIORAL EXPECTATIONS Customer Service - the ability to support the work of others. A high level of understandingand respect for the urgency and needs of others. Ability to see how actions impact others.Willingness to put the needs of internal and external customers first. Positive Attitude – as a public face of Second Harvest, this position requires a very high levelof enthusiasm and energy around working with the public. Strong ability to help ourvolunteers feel welcomed and appreciated. Rapport Building – comfortable working with a wide range of volunteers including youth,executives, donors, special needs, court ordered and retired individuals. Communication -- utilize a variety of communication skills including public speaking,written, formal, informal, etc. Willingness to converse regularly with colleagues about dailyvolunteer needs; Consistently provide ideas, opinions, or information in an articulate,professional way. Actively listen to others and demonstrate understanding of other pointsof view. Demonstrate respect for all individuals encountered in day-to-day work including clients ofSHH. Upholds high levels of Cultural competency. Understand safety policies and actively promote safe practices in the workplace.07-2012

Canintroduce and explore new ideas (Innovate).Take the initiative to identify and act on problems and lead by example.Attention to detail and organization - ability to track and retain many pieces of detailedinformationTeam Oriented – enjoy working closely within a team setting shifting and sharingresponsibilities as needed.QUALIFICATIONS: 4-year degree in Human Service, Non-Profit Management, Social Work, Social Science,Marketing, Communications or related fields. Previous experience working with volunteers Familiarity with Minneapolis and St. Paul communities and demonstrated ability tonetwork in those communities Familiarity with public school system Experience working with the public required (with particular emphasis on customer serviceroles) Comfortable learning new information systems Demonstrated ability to network and cultivate external relationships Intermediate Microsoft Office Suite skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access, Powerpoint). Strong public speaking skills Ability to work independently Willingness to occasionally work weekend or evening events.PHYSICAL DEMANDS Ability to sit at a desk and work on a computer for moderate periods of time. Ability to transport supplies using 2-wheeled dolly or mobile cart.
