U N I T E D S T A T E S A I R F O R C ELIEUTENANT COLONEL PAIRIN SKAGGSLieutenant Colonel Pairin Skaggs is the Commander ofthe 51st Medical Operations Squadron, <strong>Osan</strong> <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Base</strong>,Republic of Korea. She is responsible for over 120military officers, enlisted, and civilians who deliver healthcare for over 11,000 beneficiaries in the <strong>Osan</strong> <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Base</strong>community. The 51st Medical Operations Squadron isthe largest of four 51st Medical Group squadrons and iscomprised of five flights: Emergency Services, MentalHealth, Primary Care, Surgical Services, and DiagnosticImaging. Lieutenant Colonel Skaggs completed aBachelor of Science degree in Nursing in 1990, and wascommissioned by ROTC Detachment 128 at theUniversity of Delaware. Her initial assignment was toLittle Rock Hospital, Little Rock AFB, Arkansas, as aclinical nurse on the Medical-Surgical Unit. Choosing totransition to obstetrical nursing, she transferred to theLabor and Delivery Unit at Yokota <strong>Air</strong> <strong>Base</strong>, Japan, aftercompleting the Obstetric Short Course at Keesler AFB,Mississippi. Heading back to America, LieutenantColonel Skaggs continued as a Labor and Delivery nurse with the 1st Medical Group, LangleyAFB. From Langley she was selected for a career broadening assignment as a Flight Nurse withthe 86th Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron at Ramstein AB, Germany, where she became aFlight Nurse Instructor and Chief of Pharmaceutical and <strong>Air</strong> Crew Scheduling. Following thiscareer broadening, Lieutenant Colonel Skaggs took on the challenge of Element Chief of the thirdlargest Labor and Delivery unit in the <strong>Air</strong> Force at the 96th Medical Group, Eglin AFB, Fl. Fromthere Lieutenant Colonel Skaggs enjoyed the opportunity of another career broadeningassignment as the Deputy Chief, Aeromedical Control Team, embedded with the 15th <strong>Air</strong> MobilitySquadron, Travis AFB, Ca, from where she was deployed to Al Udeid (CAOC), planning missionsfor OIF/OEF operations. After the deployment, PACAF recruited her for the position of FlightCommander of the Labor and Delivery Flight, and subsequently Deputy Squadron Commander ofthe Medical Operations Squadron and the newly formed Surgical Operations Squadron, 35thMedical Group, Misawa AB, Japan. Lieutenant Colonel Skaggs joined Team <strong>Osan</strong>, <strong>Osan</strong> AB,Republic of Korea in 2009 as 51st Medical Group Chief Nurse Executive. She was awarded thePACAF Major General Barbara C. Brannon Nursing Leadership Award in 2010.Lt Col Skaggs is married to Matthew P.
