POLICE WEEKLast year, the DSA helped send deputies to Washington, D.C., tohonor Ken Collier. Believing more members should experience thenational memorial, the DSA chose four members to attend this yearand provided a travel stipend to help cover costs. The DSA Directors,DSA Members, and four Honor Guard deputies traveled together toPolice Week May 13 to 19. While the focus of the trip is to attendthe memorial ceremonies and honor the officers who gave their livesin the line of duty in 2011, Police Week also provides a chance forattending law enforcement officers from around the world to visitWashington, D.C., and meet fellow officers. Once again, the DSAcontingent spent time with the SDPOA group who were their tohonor Officer Jeremy Henwood. The support provided by and forthe various officers in attendance is quite moving. With tours ofthe pentagon (mentioned by Tammy Bennetts on page 16), a visit tothe tomb of the unknown soldier, receptions, and other events, thescheduled is kept quite full throughout Police Week.
