Clear Proof of a Perfect SealToday's tie-ins or transitions from air barriers to window or curtain wall systems are frequently thesource of problems when it comes to preventing air and moisture infiltration in a building. Sequence ofinstallation and coordination of effort between trades can lead to workmanship errors and other problems.Once a building's integrity is compromised and moisture is allowed to enter, it can lead to the deteriorationof envelope components, rusting and degradation of structural supports as well as damage to exteriorfinishes, which is costly to the building owner and may necessitate removal of the exterior cladding to findand correct the leak. In addition, up to 40% of a building's energy consumption for heating or cooling isattributable to air leakage. The control of air and moisture movement is critical.Proglaze ® ETA Engineered Transition Assembly from Tremco now provides a PROVEN solution froma single-source to simplify the installation of transitions from window or curtain wall systems to wallassemblies.Mechanically attached to the window or wall assembly, the patent-pending Proglaze ETA ensures acontinuous, compatible seal. It provides a durable connection designed to:• Allow it to absorb dynamic movement and wind-loading stresses without pulling apart,• Allow it to span and seal across irregular window geometries while meeting performance requirements,• Ensure documented compatibility of components,• Provide single-source accountability…and eliminate delays waiting for completion of tie-ins, increasedcost from multiple trips to complete tie-ins and workmanship errors resulting from detailing andinvolvement by a variety of trades.2Note: The location of Proglaze ETA must be approved by the window and/or wall manufacturer prior to its use. It can be installedin the shop and/or the fi eld. To ensure proper connections can be made effectively, the sequence of installation must be reviewedprior to construction.Proglaze Install Instructions V7.indd 21/18/08 2:09:20 PM

Proglaze ETA ComponentsSystem DescriptionProglaze ETA is comprised of pre-engineered, fi nished aluminum and silicone materials, which are assembled and mechanicallyattached to the window or wall assembly to insure a durable connection and seal.1Extruded Aluminum Adaptor (EAA) – Alodine-finishedaluminum adaptor with a pre-engineered race for receivingsilicone lock-in dart. The adaptor is supplied in 5' (60") lengthswith 3/16" diameter holes every 6" on center and is packagedin bundles of 10, equaling 50 lineal feet per box.The system assembly is comprised of the following components:.905.405.301.100Tremco 440 Tape1/16" X 3 /8"The adaptor is supplied with Tremco 440 Tape pre-applied.092on the backside. Protective release paper covering the butyl Extruded Aluminum Adaptortape is removed during installation and the butyl tape is usedto temporarily hold the adaptor in position before mechanicalfasteners are installed. The butyl tape also provides a secondary seal betweenthe adaptor and window/wall frame and seals penetrations created by themechanical fasteners.Box dimensions 60.5" x 3.5" on all sides of triangular box (7 lbs)Silicone Rubber Extrusion (SRE) –Extruded, 40 durometer, translucentsilicone extrusion with a lock-in dart. The Silicone Rubber Extrusion ismanufactured 6" wide and packagedin 50 lineal foot coils. It is available by the case in either10.15 fl oz plastic cartridges (30/case) or 20 fl oz sausages (15/case)Metal Screws – Screws are installed a minimum of every 12". The minimum size screw is a#10 x ¾" PHT. Larger screws may be used, but must be approved by the window and/or wallmanufacturer.3Proglaze Install Instructions V7.indd 31/18/08 2:09:20 PM

Proglaze ETA Field InstallationClean the window frame with the IPA two-cloth method where the Extruded Aluminum Adaptor will make contact.12"112"The adaptor is easily cut to length to surround thewindow and/or wall system. It does not need to bemitered or run past the metal frame’s edge.12"12"23The length of the Silicone Rubber Extrusion isdetermined by subtracting 10" (5" from either end ofthe window unit). This length will allow a minimum of1" overlap under the pre-molded corner. The moldedcorner’s dart is set back from the edge 1.5" to allow forthe overlap.Prior to insertion of the gasket into the adaptor’s race,Spectrem 1 Silicone Sealant is applied as shown underon page 4.The Spectrem 1 Silicone Sealant adheres the SiliconeRubber Extrusion to the race while affixing the adaptorto the window and/or wall frame. The gasket is theninserted into the race, which holds it in place while thesealant is allowed to cure. The lap joints are sealed next. The perimeter seal isdone last to permanently bond the Silicone Rubber Extrusionto the ExoAir 110, 110LT or TWF Membrane.3Important: The surface of the air and vapor barrier membrane must be cleaned with the IPA two-cloth method where the SiliconeRubber Extrusion will be adhered with Spectrem 1 Silicone Sealant. On the ExoAir membranes, this may remove some of the printing. This is normal and may be a good indicator of an effective cleaning process. Residual asphalt from the reverse side of the ExoAirshould be kept to a minimum to ensure a good bonding surface.5Proglaze Install Instructions V7.indd 51/18/08 2:09:31 PM

Application TipsBAAEnsuring a Secure Seal – The sealantconnection between the Silicone RubberExtrusion and Silicone Rubber Corner to theExoAir membrane must span a minimum of1" of surface area to ensure a good bond andlong-term seal. The translucent silicone materialallows for easy inspection through the gasket toconfirm sufficient sealant has been applied.BBThe ribs on the silicone extrusion preventthe silicone sealant from being squeezed toa thin film. To ensure the Silicone RubberExtrusion cannot be peeled awayaccidentally or that debris isallowed to become lodged behindthe gasket, the leading edge ofthe Silicone Rubber Extrusionmust be securely sealed. A seamroller can be used to ensure firm, continuous contact throughoutthe length of the seal whilealso providing a mechanicalengagement.CCEliminating Adhesion Problems – Lap jointsof the ExoAir 110 sheet should be kept to aminimum around the rough opening. Where largelap joints of the rubberized asphalt do occur, asmall splice sheet of the ExoAir 110 sheet shouldbe placed over the lap joint to provide a goodbonding surface.On-site RepairsIf conditions on the job result in a tear or puncture to the Silicone Rubber Extrusion or Silicone RubberCorner, they can be easily repaired. Application of a generous bead of Spectrem 1 Silicone Sealant overand around the hole is typically sufficient to seal the penetration. Some tears can be repaired by cutting alength of the Silicone Rubber Extrusion and affixing it over the tear with Spectrem 1 Silicone Sealant wherethe materials overlap. If the extrusion or corner has a long tear, it may be prudent to replace them.6Proglaze Install Instructions V7.indd 61/18/08 2:09:32 PM

Challenging Field ConditionsCertain window and/or wallsystems may require a newoffset dart design with offsetcorner, custom shapes ormodifications to the SiliconeRubber Extrusion or SiliconeRubber Corners to perform asrequired. These may include:• Expansion joints• Extended lap/splice/bridge joints• Head receptor• Inside/outside cornerconditionsTremco’s Design Engineering team will workwith you to modify components or customizesolutions appropriate for the site conditions. For assistance, contact Tremco Design Engineering at 800-321-6357.Typical Examples of Attachment Locations.ExoAir SheetHEADExoAir SheetExtruded Aluminum AdaptorProglaze ETA Off-Set DartExtruded Aluminum AdaptorSILLProglaze ETA Off-Set DartJAMBProglaze ETA Off-Set DartExoAir SheetDetails are available on Tremco's web site at www.tremcosealants.com.7Proglaze Install Instructions V7.indd 71/18/08 2:09:35 PM

Ensuring Real-World PerformanceTremco’s ExoAir Air Barrier Systems have been designed to meet or exceedthe industry’s most rigorous standards for air permeability. Proglaze ETA wasdeveloped and tested to ensure long-term, air and moisture protection whenused in conjunction with ExoAir 110 and 110LT (Low Temperature) Self-AdheredAir & Vapor Barrier Membranes and ExoAir TWF Self-Adhered Thru-Wall FlashingMembrane at transitions into door and window openings or curtain wall systems.Compatible, comprehensive, proven performance. And, only when Proglaze ETA is used with these ExoAir products,is it backed by a performance warranty. The growing awareness of airleakage-related problems isdriving governments in Canadaand the United States to adoptcodes and regulations designedto control air and moistureinfiltration into commercialbuildings. Many air barriermaterials are currently availableto satisfy these requirements.Joining the air barrier systemused on the wall assembly tothe window system to providean airtight building envelope iswhere problems occur. In additionto installation practices, materialsused to provide the continuousprotection (and long-termcompatibility where connected)are critical to the long-termsuccess of the solution.Caution:Application of Proglaze ETA requires a clean ExoAir 110, 110LT or TWF bonding surface. Overspray of ExoAir 120 Fluid-Applied Air &Vapor Barrier Membrane should be avoided.engineered solutions forcomplete protection3735 Green RoadBeachwood, OH 44122216.292.5000 • 800.321.79061451 Jacobson AvenueAshland, OH 44805800.321.6357220 Wicksteed AvenueToronto, ON M4H 1G7416.421.3300 • 800.363.3213www.tremcosealants.com0108ETAAI Spectrem ® and Proglaze ® are registered trademarks of Tremco Incorporated.Proglaze Install Instructions V7.indd 81/18/08 2:09:35 PM
