Moreover, as HIV/AIDS and poverty areclosely linked, collaboration is key to bringing the AIDSpandemic to a halt.Joint action enables us to work at the crossroads of HIVand poverty reduction. Therefore, five Dutch developmentcooperation organisations joined forces in STOP AIDS NOW!:Aids Fonds, Cordaid Memisa, Hivos, ICCO, and Oxfam Novib.We work together with governments, companies, nongovernmentalorganisations, universities, and the generalpublic, while the combined networks within STOP AIDS NOW!give us access to about 2,000 local organisations. Moreover, weattach great value to working with people at community level.Community involvementThe fight against AIDS in developing countries requires aspecific approach. We are faced with challenges such asstigmatisation and discrimination. Evidently, the mosteffective way to arrive at solutions is to closely collaboratewith those we target, namely the local communities.Because the community members themselves are theexperts on their needs, sensitivities, challenges as well assuccessful and failing methods.16 1617
