CRUISING YACHT CLUB OF AUSTRALIAANNUAL REPORT Year end March 31 20<strong>10</strong>ASSOCIATES COMMITTEE REPORTJaney Treleaven, PresidentThe Associates Committee has long been an integral part inthe organisation <strong>of</strong> social events at the CYCA.Supported by the Member Services Committee, we initiate,plan and host a range <strong>of</strong> events for the enjoyment <strong>of</strong> allmembers and their guests. The Committee also participatesin fundraising activities for the benefit <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Club</strong> or a <strong>Club</strong>preferred charity.I was elected President last July taking over from PamMessenger who opted to stand down after a successful twoyear term where she introduced a number <strong>of</strong> fresh faces tothe Committee, invigorating it with new life.I would like to recognise the dedication <strong>of</strong> the Committeemembers who donate a significant amount <strong>of</strong> their timetowards the achievement <strong>of</strong> the Committee’s mandate.The 15 strong Committee is a wonderful blend <strong>of</strong> youth,enthusiasm and experience with Kendi Kellett elected Vice-President, long-serving Associate Committee member CathieMulherin elected Treasurer and newcomer Danielle Hallelected Secretary. Other members include Pam Messenger,Fiona Davies, Amanda Lulham, Jennifer Dahl, Pam Neate,Patricia Cox, Kay Brooks, Pamela Emerson, Susan Piggott,Rhonda Carr and Alex Frampton.FundraisingThroughout the year, the Associates worked tirelessly to raisefunds for NRMA CareFlight and the CYCA SOLAS Trusts.The Associates Committee would like to thank all whocontributed to the Winter Ball Silent Auction, MelbourneCup Raffle and Christmas Hamper, we rely on their continuedsupport to assist with our fundraising activities. Notable thanksto Robert Oatley Vineyards, “Fast Ed” Halmagyi, Black Wolf,Hamilton Island, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, BennelongRestaurant, and Winning Appliances.An amount <strong>of</strong> $9,000 was raised this year for NRMACareFlight to purchase three night vision helmets. Thanks toSusan Piggott and Pam Neate for preparing the Christmashamper and leading many fundraising activities.Winter BallThe annual Winter Ball is one <strong>of</strong> the most memorable nightson the social calendar, a wonderful way to catch up withfriends, renew old acquaintances and meet new people. TheNew Trocadero Dance Band provided terrific music that hadeveryone up on the dance floor until midnight.Thanks to Kendi Kellett, Fiona Davies, Jennifer Dahl, and PamMessenger for convening this special and successful event forthe second year running.Parade <strong>of</strong> SailCompetitors young and old maintained tradition during the16th <strong>Annual</strong> Associates Parade <strong>of</strong> Sail. Dressed with signalflags and the <strong>of</strong>ficial burgee <strong>of</strong> the CYCA, the <strong>Australia</strong>nHeritage Fleet’s historic <strong>10</strong>5-year-old schooner Boomerangwas on station as the fleet sailed by, saluting the Commodorewith three cheers and the dipping <strong>of</strong> their ensigns.Sir James Hardy fired the canon to commence the Paradeaccompanied by his wife Lady Joan Hardy, CommodoreMatt Allen, Vice Commodore Howard Piggott and RearCommodore Garry Linacre. Led by Les Goodridge’s Erica J,celebrating her 60th birthday, the fleet <strong>of</strong> yachts built before1975, made an impressive spectacle sailing up the harbour toround Fort Denison. Congratulations to Karalee, winning the‘Ship Shape & Bristol Fashion Award’ for the second time.Thanks to all the skippers, crews and volunteers. Thankyou to Patricia Cox, Jeannette York and family for assistingin organising this wonderful event. We look forward tocontinuing this tradition in conjunction with the <strong>Club</strong> OpenDay celebrations to be held in September.20
