Luas ‘Before and After’ Impact StudyThe DTO commissioned a survey of the attitudestowards Luas, and people’s travel patterns, along the twoLuas corridors and in control areas not served by Luas(Drumcondra, Lucan, Rathfarnham). Interviews wereconducted with residents, employers and retailers in theselected areas. Residents also completed detailed traveldiaries. These data were then compared with data from asimilar pre-Luas set of surveys, conducted in 2004 in advanceof the opening of the new service, in order to establish theimpact of Luas on people’s traveling behaviour and attitudes. These survey results will be published in 2007.< Bus Luas comparisonIn 2006, the DTO commissioned a study of thecomparative benefits of bus and Luas operations inDocklands, in preparation for the Line C1 public inquiry.< Motorcycles in Bus LanesIn response to a proposal from the Road Safety Authority, theDTO produced a report on safety issues relating to permittingmotorcycles to use bus lanes. As a result of this report, and of subsequent inter-agency discussions, the RSA thencommissioned a study to consider appropriate next stepsin relation to motorcycle safety and bus corridor safety.< Port Tunnel Impact Assessment (‘Before’ study)The DTO conducted traffic surveys at key locations inthe vicinity of the Dublin Port Tunnel, in advance of itsopening, in order to establish a benchmark against whichdata from a subsequent post-opening survey (to beconducted in 2007) will be compared, in order to assessthe impact of the new facility on traffic patterns.page 23
