Jon Wilson Lions Volleyball CampDirector Jon Wilson, seven-timeAtlantic Coast Conference championwhile head coach at Duke University,became head coach of the Columbiavolleyball team in December 2007.Wilson, who won over 300 games atDuke, has also coached in the Ivy Leagueas an assistant at the University of Pennsylvania, and was headcoach of women’s volleyball at Rice University. During his15-year tenure with Duke, Wilson’s teams posted a record of301-187 and appeared in seven NCAA tournaments, advancingto the Sweet 16 in 1984, 1993 and 1994. Wilson wasnamed ACC Coach of the Year in 1991 and 1993, and hisstudent-athletes were named first-team All-ACC 36 times.Two were named Academic All-America.While at Rice, Wilson led the Owls to a 19-11 season in 2003.From 1984 to 1988, Wilson consulted with the French Women’sNational Team, helping them qualify for two EuropeanChampionships. Most recently, Wilson has been coaching inHouston with the Texas Tornados Volleyball Club, one of thenation’s premier junior programs. He has also been coachingmiddle school and high school boys at the St. John’s School, anationally recognized prep school that sends many graduatesto the Ivy League. A 1977 graduate of the University ofMassachusetts, Wilson earned a B.A. in Anthropology, as wellas a Master’s from Wheaton College in 1996. Wilson is excitedabout the opportunity to build a program that matches theexcellence of both Columbia and New York City, callingliving and working in the Ivy League and Manhattan "a dreamcome true."Program: The Jon Wilson Lions Volleyball Camp focuses ondeveloping fundamental skills for both athletes who arenew to the game, and for those looking to build onadvanced experience. She was named the United States Field HockeyAssociation Player of the Year for the second time in2003, also receiving the distinction in 2000.In more than 10 years with the USA Team, Beach trainedin its full-time residency program and competed inmajor competitions including the Olympic Games inAtlanta in 1996. The team won silver medals at the PanAmerican Games in 1999 and 2003. Beach alsoparticipated in the World Cup in 1998 and 2003.Assistant Jana Woolley is inher first season as a Columbia assistantcoach. Woolley previously served as anassistant coach at the University ofNorth Carolina for eight years andhelped UNC to NCAA titles in 1995,1996 and 1997.Program: Dream Big Field Hockey Camp is anopportunity for athletes to sharpen their field hockeyskills. The camp curriculum is designed to improve theplayers’ fundamental skills and advance theirunderstanding of the game. Kerri WhitakerUptown Lacrosse CampDirector Kerri Whitaker is now inher sixth year as the Lions’ head coach,fueled by focus and determination,combined with an even-keeled, winningattitude. Her leadership has brought herteam from startup stages to one that canrespectably square off with any team inthe nation, and the team’s formidableschedules reflect that. Whitaker has guided her team to a31-10 mark in non-conference play over the last five seasonsand, in 2006, she led the Lions to their first .500 season at 8-8.Under her tutelage, several players have rewritten theColumbia record book, led by Carrie Anderer ‘06CC, KateLombard ’07CC and current players. Anderer became the Lions’first-ever first team All-Ivy League honoree in 2005 as a junior.Lombard broke the school career goals record and was afour-time honoree in All-Ivy League voting. Other currentplayers have obliterated the previous school bests for assists ina season and a career, and are on track to become the school’scareer point-leaders. Whitaker has coached many players tothe top of Columbia’s record books for points, goals, assistsand goalkeeping.A 1996 graduate of Brown, Whitaker played on the U.S.National Elite Team for four years and is currently anassistant coach on the U.S. Developmental Squad. She has alsobeen a clinician at the U.S. Lacrosse National CoachesConvention and clinics.Program: The Uptown Lacrosse Camp is geared specificallyfor athletes aged 14-18. The design, structure, and format forthe camp are instruction-based and emphasize teaching: skills,concepts, tactics, and technique. The morning sessions aredevoted to skill development, while the afternoon sessionsrevolve around tactical development in the context of gamesituations. Columbia baseballhas reached new heights in the IvyLeague since Boretti’s arrival two yearsago. The Lions compiled a 10-10 mark inIvy play in 2007, equaling their most Ivywins since 2002. In his brief tenure atColumbia, Boretti has coached seven All-Ivy League players, inaddition to several honorable mention honorees. Prior to comingto Columbia, Boretti built Franklin and Marshall College intoa championship program at the Division III level. While at F&MBoretti became the all-time wins leader in F&M baseball coachinghistory in only 5 years, compiling a 116-82 record.Boretti served two seasons, 1998-2000, as an assistant coach atBrown, where he coordinated recruiting efforts, coachedhitting and the outfield. Boretti assisted at his alma mater,Davidson, from 1996-1998. Boretti was one of Davidson's bestall-time players. A four-year letter winner as a catcher, the1994 graduate ranks among the school's top 10 in sluggingpercentage, hits, home runs, total bases, runs batted in, gamesplayed and at bats. He earned All-Southern Conference firstteam honors in 1993 and 1994. He hopes to take the Lions toan Ivy Championship this spring.Program: At the Brett Boretti Baseball Camp, the focus ison teaching fundamental baseball and having fun. Theemphasis is on playing baseball with energy, enthusiasm andeffort while learning the game. The day is filled withcompetitions for prizes, as well as team games.
