Kerri WhitakerUptown Lacrosse <strong>Camp</strong>Director Kerri Whitaker is now inher sixth year as the <strong>Lion</strong>s’ head coach,fueled by focus and determination,combined with an even-keeled, winningattitude. Her leadership has brought herteam from startup stages to one that canrespectably square off with any team inthe nation, and the team’s formidableschedules reflect that. Whitaker has guided her team to a31-10 mark in non-conference play over the last five seasonsand, in 2006, she led the <strong>Lion</strong>s to their first .500 season at 8-8.Under her tutelage, several players have rewritten theColumbia record book, led by Carrie Anderer ‘06CC, KateLombard ’07CC and current players. Anderer became the <strong>Lion</strong>s’first-ever first team <strong>All</strong>-Ivy League honoree in 2005 as a junior.Lombard broke the school career goals record and was afour-time honoree in <strong>All</strong>-Ivy League voting. Other currentplayers have obliterated the previous school bests for assists ina season and a career, and are on track to become the school’scareer point-leaders. Whitaker has coached many players tothe top of Columbia’s record books for points, goals, assistsand goalkeeping.A 1996 graduate of Brown, Whitaker played on the U.S.National Elite Team for four years and is currently anassistant coach on the U.S. Developmental Squad. She has alsobeen a clinician at the U.S. Lacrosse National CoachesConvention and clinics.Program: <strong>The</strong> Uptown Lacrosse <strong>Camp</strong> is geared specificallyfor athletes aged 14-18. <strong>The</strong> design, structure, and format forthe camp are instruction-based and emphasize teaching: skills,concepts, tactics, and technique. <strong>The</strong> morning sessions aredevoted to skill development, while the afternoon sessionsrevolve around tactical development in the context of gamesituations. Columbia baseballhas reached new heights in the IvyLeague since Boretti’s arrival two yearsago. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Lion</strong>s compiled a 10-10 mark inIvy play in 2007, equaling their most Ivywins since 2002. In his brief tenure atColumbia, Boretti has coached seven <strong>All</strong>-Ivy League players, inaddition to several honorable mention honorees. Prior to comingto Columbia, Boretti built Franklin and Marshall College intoa championship program at the Division III level. While at F&MBoretti became the all-time wins leader in F&M baseball coachinghistory in only 5 years, compiling a 116-82 record.Boretti served two seasons, 1998-2000, as an assistant coach atBrown, where he coordinated recruiting efforts, coachedhitting and the outfield. Boretti assisted at his alma mater,Davidson, from 1996-1998. Boretti was one of Davidson's bestall-time players. A four-year letter winner as a catcher, the1994 graduate ranks among the school's top 10 in sluggingpercentage, hits, home runs, total bases, runs batted in, gamesplayed and at bats. He earned <strong>All</strong>-Southern Conference firstteam honors in 1993 and 1994. He hopes to take the <strong>Lion</strong>s toan Ivy Championship this spring.Program: At the Brett Boretti Baseball <strong>Camp</strong>, the focus ison teaching fundamental baseball and having fun. <strong>The</strong>emphasis is on playing baseball with energy, enthusiasm andeffort while learning the game. <strong>The</strong> day is filled withcompetitions for prizes, as well as team games.
