1200B2 Series Service Regulators05 Elster American MeterInspectionInspection of Valve Seat Disc and Orifice(Numbers in parentheses refer to Figure 3.)1.2.3.4.5.6.7.8.CAUTIONRegulators are pressure-control mechanismshaving numerous moving parts which canwear. In addition, regulator damage may occurfrom external sources. For these reasons, theregulator should be periodically inspected andchecked for proper operation. The frequencyof inspection will depend on the severity of theservice conditions and the requirements ofapplicable local, state, and federal codes andregulations.Inspection and maintenance of the 1200B2Series regulator have been simplified forpractical reasons. Repair parts are offeredif maintenance of the regulator is required.Inspection of the valve seat disc and orificevalve may be performed in the field. Followthe procedure described below. Care shouldbe exercised to prevent foreign matter fromentering the regulator.Shut off gas supply and depressurize the system.Remove four valve body bolts (2), securing the diaphragmcase (3) to the valve body (1). Separate the diaphragm casefrom the valve body.Visually check the seating edge of the orifice inside thevalve body (1). If it is nicked or damaged, it should bereplaced with a new orifice to provide positive shut off. Seemaintenance instructions for replacing orifice.Inspect the surface of the valve seat disc (4). If it is scoredor uneven, replace it as outlined in the maintenanceinstructions for replacing the seat disc.Install new seal ring (5) in the diaphragm case groove.Inspect unit for cleanliness and proper positioning of theparts. Pay particular attention to the proper positioning ofthe seal ring (5) in the groove.Install the diaphragm case (3) on the valve body (1). Makesure the vent is positioned so that it cannot become pluggedor allow water to enter.
