CONTRA-INDICATION
A contra-indication is a reason NOT to
perform your treatment.
When you carry out your consultation it
is important to check for any type of skin
or nail condition or infection. Even if soft
tissue is broken the whole nail is open to
infection. Advise your client to seek medical
advice and ALWAYS ask for written
e ok to carry out
the treatment. Attach this letter to their
client record card.
CONTRA-ACTIONS
A contra-action is a skin or nail condition
that is best treated by the client’s doctor
or pharmacist.
BACTERIAL INFECTION
Commonly know as ‘A Green Nail’
CAUSE
• Oil, moisture or bacteria between two
surfaces; often between the natural
nail and gel or acrylic overlay
• Lifting of the gel/acrylic or poor
maintenance
TREATMENT
that nail. Thoroughly clean the natural nail and
re-apply your gel/acrylic overlay. If it is severe,
ONYCHOLYSIS
Nail Plate Separation
CAUSE
• Trauma
• Nail sculpted too long
• Aggressive techniques
• Poor homecare
TREATMENT
• Reduce length
• Try not to soak overlay as the natural
nail will be lacking in moisture so this will
dehydrate the nail further.
