06 NTU | URECAURECAwww.ntu.edu.sg/urecaURECA (Undergraduate Research Experience on CAmpus) is anelite research programme for second and third year undergraduatestudents who have achieved excellent academic standing. Theprogramme allows students to immerse in a vibrant researchculture and gain invaluable first-hand experience while earningmonetary allowances or academic credits. They will be awardedthe coveted title of NTU President Research Scholar (NTU PRS)upon completion of the programme.On this exclusive platform, outstanding undergraduates are givenan opportunity to work on a research project of their interest, andpursue independent research under the guidance and supervisionof a professor over a period of eleven months (August to June).URECA students commit quality time on their research, whichgives them a unique exposure to a vibrant research culture andexperience researching at a specialised level.By the end of URECA, NTU PRSs will gain a good appreciationof the rigours of research, the concise formulation of researchproblems and possibly nurture a desire to pursue a higher degreethrough research and eventually choosing research as a career.By participating in URECA, students may:• Develop a deeper understanding of a research topic oftheir choice.• Utilise this opportunity to prepare for postgraduate studies.• Challenge knowledge gained through textbooks andclassrooms, and learn to look at an issue from more than oneperspective.Other opportunities include:• Participating in Discover URECA@NTU Poster Exhibition andPoster Competition held in conjunction with the annualNTU Open House.• Pursuing research-based final year projects under the FYP-URECA scheme.• Publishing research papers in archived journals and presentingtheir research at international conferences.“The URECA programmeenables students to delve deeperinto what we are studying, andchallenges our knowledge beyondwhat we learn in class. It providesus with the opportunity to workclosely with a professor to acquirefurther knowledge, and to pushourselves to achieve a higher levelof critical thinking.
