Discussion pointsincluded: improvements in environmental health will require greater application of riskassessment <strong>and</strong> management; <strong>the</strong> promulgation of environmental health st<strong>and</strong>ards;information systems; a larger work-force; <strong>and</strong> greater public participation.Readers of <strong>the</strong> present paper are urged to study <strong>the</strong> Commonwealth’s document. Although<strong>the</strong> period for consultation on this document concluded in November 1998, <strong>the</strong> developmentof a national environmental health policy is clearly a slow process. As we await <strong>the</strong> definitivepolicy document, it is worth considering what might also be required.
