It is now welcoming shoppers, as its sevenunits have filled, offering a wide range of productsand services for residents and visitors to the town.<strong>The</strong> Drill Hall was officially opened on the 18thNovember with a private party for guests and ribboncutting by the Mayor of St.Ives Cllr Yvonne Watson.Local businessman Pete Eddie, who now ownsthe building, has spent the best part of this yearensuring that the businesses which have taken theunits will have the best possible facilities.Cllr Yvonne Watson, Mayor of St.Ives said, “I amdelighted that we have had new and establishedbusinesses in the Drill Hall. It is a building which hasbeen at the heart of the community in St.Ives forover 200 years, so it is right that it should continueto support the townspeople and their businesses.”Peter Eddy added “<strong>The</strong>re is something for everyoneand I hope that it will be a hive of activity for thetown. <strong>The</strong> seven businesses are CafeArt, BrooksSmith Gallery, Serendipity Smile, Birds of a Feather,Poppy Treffry, Salon Uno and Favela.”<strong>The</strong> Drill Hall was originally known as the St IvesTeetotal Methodist Chapel and dates back to1841. <strong>The</strong> congregation gave their time and skillsas tradesmen and for finance, a basin was kepton a table into which members placed whateverthey could afford. <strong>The</strong> bowl was never failed to bereplenished until the building was completed.<strong>The</strong> granite Teetotal Chapel featured box pewswith doors and had a gallery running all around theinterior. <strong>The</strong> old organ was up next to the gallerywith the choir stalls.
