Structure, governance,management andrisk managementVSO and ScotlandIn 2012/13, VSO established a new post of ScotlandMajor Partnership Manager, based in the VSO Edinburghoffice, allowing us to raise our profile in Scotland throughparticipation in networks such as the Scotland MalawiPartnership and the Scottish Parliament Cross PartyGroup on International Development. Other significantactivities that took place in Scotland during 2012/13include the following:• Six per cent (14 volunteers) of the internationalvolunteers recruited by VSO UK in 2012/13 were livingin Scotland when they applied. In addition, 15 of theVSO ICS volunteers who were recruited last year werefrom Scotland.• A reception was held at the Palace of Holyroodhousein the presence of HRH The Princess Royal. VSOparliamentarian volunteer, Fiona O’Donnell spokeabout her recent visit to Bangladesh whereshe had supported young national volunteers topresent their findings and ideas to Bangladeshipoliticians in Dhaka.• VSO received significant new grants from the Scottishgovernment and the Climate Justice Fund for VSO’swork in health and secure livelihoods in Malawi.• It was the final year of a Bangladesh secure livelihoodsproject that was funded by the Scottish government.In the past year, the focus has been on advocacyand dissemination of good practice and researchto parliamentarians and decision-makers.©VSO/Jon Spaull38 Annual Report and Financial Statements 2013Annual Report and Financial Statements 2013 39
