In particular, the incumbent will:supervise the language support group in accordance with translation practices within the UN system <strong>and</strong> advise on all documentation,meeting planning <strong>and</strong> multilingualism matters; anticipate impending issues;advise on effective planning, preparation <strong>and</strong> submission of documents <strong>and</strong> publications; establish timeframes for submission <strong>and</strong>processing, recommending ways in which to meet requirements effectively;ensure coordination of <strong>and</strong> manage the electronic workflow of the document-production process (e.g. translation <strong>and</strong> printing requests);establish priorities, propose solutions to production problems <strong>and</strong> exercise operational authority over the production system;oversee <strong>and</strong> monitor scheduling of translation requests of meeting documents, publications, official correspondence <strong>and</strong> administrativematerials;develop estimates for advance planning <strong>and</strong> forecasting of translation services required;develop <strong>and</strong> advise on strategies <strong>and</strong> policies, methods <strong>and</strong> good practices concerning the management of language resources <strong>and</strong> toolsrecommend solutions <strong>and</strong> improvements;prepare monthly budget reports on the financial resources of the Service’s budget concerning translation programming <strong>and</strong> languagesupport, <strong>and</strong> closely monitor financial performance; make recommendations on the best use of resources;develop, maintain <strong>and</strong> update the Service’s information systems <strong>and</strong> the corporate terminological tools; <strong>and</strong> ensure their widestdissemination;implement <strong>and</strong> manage the Computer-Assisted Translation systems <strong>and</strong> the Service’s Web-based applications as well as the installation<strong>and</strong> maintenance of new hardware <strong>and</strong> software equipment; ensure training of operators;represent the Organization in Inter-Agency meetings on computer-assisted translation <strong>and</strong> terminology issues;perform other related duties as required.MINIMUM REQUIREMENTSC<strong>and</strong>idates should meet the following:University degree in languages or linguistics or related subjects, computer science <strong>and</strong>/or management/business administrationSeven years of relevant experience in the production of multilingual documents including experience in terminology/reference workWorking knowledge of two of the following: English, French or SpanishSELECTION CRITERIAC<strong>and</strong>idates will be assessed against the following:Extent <strong>and</strong> relevance of experience in multilingual document productionProven ability to work with colleagues <strong>and</strong> partners in a multicultural settingDepth of knowledge of <strong>and</strong> working familiarity with programming, reference <strong>and</strong> terminology issues in international organizationsDepth of knowledge of <strong>and</strong> familiarity with subjects relevant to the work of the OrganizationExcellent communication skills, both orally <strong>and</strong> in writingAbility to prioritize plans ahead <strong>and</strong> work methodically to optimize resources <strong>and</strong> deliver work effectivelyDemonstrated supervisory skillsPlease note that all c<strong>and</strong>idates should possess computer/word processing skills <strong>and</strong> should be capable of working with people of different national<strong>and</strong> cultural backgrounds.* The length of appointment for internal FAO c<strong>and</strong>idates will be established in accordance with applicable policies pertaining to theextension of appointmentsREMUNERATIONA competitive compensation <strong>and</strong> benefits package is offered.
