IntroductionRTO 90198Welcome to the HLT61107 Advanced Diploma of Nursing (<strong>Enrolled</strong>/ <strong>Division</strong> 2<strong>nursing</strong>). This participant handbook contains information about the course content,structure and assessment.Although endorsed enrolled nurses (EENs) are associate nurses who work under thesupervision of a registered nurse (RN) or registered midwife (RM), it is critical torecognise that their scope of practice is defined by their education, legislation andauthorisation to practise as set out in the Nurses and Midwives Board of NSW ENregistration information (Information for Education Providers, NMB NSW, May 2007).This course gives EENs an opportunity to develop advanced skills and knowledge inclient assessment, care and management in a range of health care settings, within theirscope of practice.AimsThe Advanced Diploma in Nursing (<strong>Enrolled</strong>/ <strong>Division</strong> 2 <strong>nursing</strong>) recognises currentcompetencies and provides you with the advanced <strong>nursing</strong> practice knowledge andskills in your clinical stream.Learning outcomesAt the end of this course, you will be able to:1. Identify and utilise the principles of best practice in <strong>nursing</strong> assessment, caredelivery, client service and health care teamwork in order to provide holistic <strong>nursing</strong>care.2. Perform <strong>nursing</strong> interventions to assist the client with a health condition and his /her family to maintain optimal function and lifestyle.3. Demonstrate knowledge and skills required to <strong>nursing</strong> practice in contemporaryhealth environment using research skills.4. Perform <strong>nursing</strong> interventions both acute and complex to assist the client with ahealth condition, and his / her family to maintain and regain optimal function andlifestyle.5. Apply the principles of acute care, parent craft and family health, mental health,renal and or perioperative <strong>nursing</strong> care, building upon existing skills to enable theenrolled nurse to provide holistic <strong>nursing</strong> careCourse structureThe HLT61107 Advanced Diploma in Nursing (<strong>Enrolled</strong>/<strong>Division</strong> 2 <strong>nursing</strong>) has twostages:Stage 1 A four‐month program involving recognition of prior learning. Completionleads to HLT51607 Diploma in Nursing (<strong>Enrolled</strong>/<strong>Division</strong> 2 <strong>nursing</strong>).Stage 2 A six‐month study program. Completion leads to HLT61107 AdvancedDiploma in Nursing (<strong>Enrolled</strong>/<strong>Division</strong> 2 <strong>nursing</strong>).You must complete seven units of competency from the HLT07 Health TrainingPackage. Of these units, two are compulsory and five are elective units related to yourchosen clinical stream. Each unit of competency specifies tasks and performance criteriaby which you can be assessed.Compulsory unitsThe compulsory units form the fundamental principles that underpin and enhance theknowledge and skills essential to determine clients’ needs, health status and implementbest practice <strong>nursing</strong> interventions.
