Course Title: Pauline Thought and Exegesis (In English/Greek)Course Code: TBS-611 Credit (3-0-0) 3Objectives:- To have a clear understanding of Paul’s background and realize the significance of hiswork.- To identify the Pauline Churches and the various situations under which Paul wrote hisletters, thereby apply to our situation today.- To understand how Paul’s teaching on various theological and doctrinal issues helpedto solve many of the Church’s problems.- To apply Paul’s teaching in preaching and teaching today.Course Outline:1. Introduction:- The social, political and religious situation of Graeco-Roman world during the time of Paul.2. Paul:- His Jewish background.- Influence of Greek culture and thought- The theology of Paul.3. Paul’s conversion – Damascus experience – meaning and significance of that experience.4. Practical issues in Paul – e.g. Jews and non-Jews; male and female; circumcised anduncircumcised; question of unity; ecology; family relationship; attitude towards state andadministration; place of woman; issue of slavery, etc.5. Paul’s Christology.6. Important themes: Adam Christology – salvation, redemption and reconciliation,Justification by faith – Eschatology – New being, new creation – Church=body of Christ –The risen Christ=mediator.7. Issues in Pauline theology.8. Law and Grace in Galatians.9. Exegesis (selected texts from the following chapters) in English/Greek.Rom. 1, 5, 8, 9-11, 12.1Cor. 15; Eph. 1; Phil. 2, 1-11; Col 1&2.4
