8 TH <strong>SOUTH</strong> <strong>ASIAN</strong> <strong>Bodybuilding</strong><strong>Championships</strong>The program of the 8th South Asian <strong>Bodybuilding</strong> <strong>Championships</strong> were organized very smoothly bythe Bhutan <strong>Bodybuilding</strong> and Weightlifting Federation from 1st - 5th June, 2011. This regionalevent was supported by the Royal Government of Bhutan and by the Bhutan Olympic Committee.The finals held on 4th June at the Clock Tower square in the capital city of Thimphu wastelecasted live throughout the country. This is the FIRST major sporting event held in theKingdom of Bhutan and over 15,000 people witnessed the finals at the square open to the publicfree-of-charge. The concrete seats facing the clock tower square were packed with people asbodybuilders from six SAARC member nations flexed every bit of their muscles they were able tochisel out on their bodies.The venue of the 8 th South Asian <strong>Bodybuilding</strong><strong>Championships</strong>Members of the organizing committee with PaulChua, Secretary-General of WBPF and <strong>ABBF</strong>.The pre-judging took place at the same venue in the afternoon on 3rd June.The two days competition were a big treat to entertainment starved Thimphu residents.For the first time in the history of <strong>Bodybuilding</strong> the full cabinet members of the Royal Governmentof Bhutan were present together with the Honorable Prime Minister Mr. Jigmi Y. Thinley and theystayed behind until the closing ceremony which ended at about 8 p.m.


The Prime Minister of Bhutan and his cabinetmembers together with S<strong>ABBF</strong> and WBPF membersseated in the front row.Bobby Singh won the overall title of MR. <strong>SOUTH</strong> ASIA. After winning numerous titles andaccolades back home, Bobby Singh from a suburban village in Manipur, India rose to fame onceagain in Bhutan. The thirty-five year old Singh clinched the Gold Medal in the 80kg. Class andwon the most coveted Mr. South Asia title in the final of the 8th South Asian <strong>Bodybuilding</strong>Championship.Judges taking an oath to uphold the law of thecompetition.Paul congratulating the Executive Vice-President(S<strong>ABBF</strong>) Farooq Iqbal of PakistanMajor Karma Tshering founding member of BBWLF,Christina Kam and Tandin wangchuk at the site ofthe venue.
