2 ND INTERNATIONAL DEFORMITYCORRECTION COURSE 20127th to 9th July 2012University Malaya Medical Centre KualaLumpur, MalaysiaWelcoming message from Course ChairmanDear friends,Management of bone and joint deformities is becoming more challenging. This isdue to higher expectations in treatment outcome, improving standards of living andincreasing media coverage on medical advancements. At the same time, betterunderstanding of bone healing process and development of new treatmentmodalities provides surgeons with means to correct nearly all components ofdeformity including discrepancies in limb length. With new implants andinstrumentations, orthopaedic surgeons can restore anatomical alignment andachieve better functional outcome for patients with even severe deformities. Thiscourse is designed to expose orthopaedic and related clinical specialties to currenttreatment options, and provide them with hand-on exercises for more complicatedprocedures.Over the years, the orthopaedic department of University Malaya has developedworkshop modules and deformity models on artificial bones to facilitatetraining for limb deformity correction. We hope that this course will provideorthopaedic surgeons and their team adequate knowledge and skills to managepatients with severe and disabling deformities due to a multitude of causes. We arefortunate to have experts in this field to share their experiences and provideguidance in management of these problems. We hope this course will also providea forum for everyone to discuss their problematic cases and exchange opinions invarious aspects of patient management.Thank you.Sincerely yours,Dr. Saw AikCourse Chairman
