<strong>Anglo</strong> <strong>Platinum</strong> metal salesinto the local jewellery marketLooking back over the past six months, the spike in the metalprice which started in January caused some hysteria within thejewellery industry both locally and internationally. The huge priceincrease has affected the global market quite substantially however,surprisingly, local South Africa sales have remained resilient. The<strong>Platinum</strong> Metal Consignment Scheme had its best month since theinception of the scheme in May 2008.<strong>Platinum</strong>:Sales to date for platinum are 36,1 kg compared to a total of12.9 kg for the same period in 2007.This bodes well for the rest of the year as the price is softening a littleand manufacturers are starting to gear up for the upcoming touristseason in spring and summer time.COD customers remain the biggest part of the business reflecting thateven in these tough trading conditions, the physical attributes ofplatinum are still sought after as the metal of choice for discerningcustomers.Palladium:There has not been much hype outside China on the palladium metaljewellery and the sales have remained constant locally.
