Allard, BSc, MD,FRCP(C)Professor and CardiovascularPathologist, UBCJames Hogg Research CentreHeart + Lung InstituteSt. Paul’s HospitalPathology Day is a criticallysignificant event in thedepartmental calendar as itserves as a time to showcasescholarly activities, includingbasic investigative, translationaland clinical-applied research,performed by our traineesand, by extension, our faculty.This gathering also provides aperfect venue to recognize andacknowledge the many outstandingcontributions by members of thedepartment over the past year.Pathology Day also serves anothercritically important function.Specifically, it is an opportunityto get together to socialize andlearn about one another as wellas gain an appreciation andunderstanding for the breadth ofscholarly activities that take placein our geographically disperseddepartment. We are very fortunateto have two outstanding scientistsparticipate in the program this year,highlighting research excellenceand continuing in the tradition ofhaving world leaders in biomedicalresearch speak at PathologyDay. Dr. Katerina Dorovini-Zis(Department of Pathology andLaboratory Medicine, Universityof British Columbia) will give theJames Hogg Lecture, while Dr.Marco Marra (Department ofMedical Genetics, University ofBritish Columbia) is our KeynoteSpeaker. I extend my thanks andgratitude to Drs.
