School of Biological Scienceswww.sbs.ntu.edu.sgThe School of Biological Sciences (SBS) provides a three to four year honours programme that equips graduates with indepthknowledge and industry relevant skill-sets for rewarding careers in the Biomedical industries, Health Care services andBiomedical Research. The key feature of the programme is that it provides students with intensive trainings in Molecular andCell Biology, Genetics and Genomics, Immunology and Microbiology, Stem Cell Biology, Neurobiology, Infectious Diseases,Biochemistry, Structural and Computational Biology. These areas are the cornerstones for understanding human diseases andare crucial for the development of therapy and medical devices.Our programmes are designed and delivered by an international team of experienced academics and leading researchers intheir respective fields. Coupled with conducive teaching and state-of-the-art research facilities in the School, students will havean enriching and engaging learning experience that promotes innovation, critique and analytical skills. Incorporating electivecourses starting from the second year allows students to specialise in areas of biological sciences that match their interestsand strengths.Programmes OfferedBachelor of Science (Honours) inBiological SciencesIn the first year, students receive strong grounding in theprinciples and practice of Chemical Biology, Structural andComputational Biology, Molecular and Cell Biology andGenetics. After completing the foundational units, studentswill choose their specialisations and focus on topics, suchas Genomics, Neurobiology, Cancer Biology, Immunology,infectious diseases, stem cell biology and drug discovery.In the final year, students will either do a laboratory-basedproject that can prepare them for a laboratory-basedresearch career or a company internship that can preparethem for a non-research career such as in managementand administration.Bachelor of Science (Honours) in BiologicalSciences with Business MinorThis programme, jointly offered by SBS and the NanyangBusiness School, imparts an independent understanding ofcore business disciplines, skills, and practices. The addedexposure to Business will complement the students coretraining by providing alternative paradigms for problem solving,an understanding of the applications of processes within theframework of the business environment, and prepare them formanagerial positions within the industry.Double Degree in Bachelor of Science(Honours) in Biomedical Sciences and Bachelorof Medicine (Chinese Medicine)This unique five-year double degree programme is anamalgamation of the western approach to BiomedicalSciences with Traditional Chinese Medicine. The Bachelor ofScience (Honours) in Biomedical Sciences is conferred by NTUand the Bachelor of Medicine (Chinese Medicine) is conferredby the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM). Thefirst three years of the double degree are taught at NTU, whilethe final two years are taught at the BUCM in the People’sRepublic of China. This is a bilingual course with English andMandarin as the languages of instruction. The graduates canpursue a laboratory-based research career or as a Chinesemedicine physician, provided they pass a Chinese medicineboard licensing examination.Unique FeaturesOutstanding Faculty MembersStudents are taught by eminently qualified faculty from over 20nations, whose transnational perspectives, teaching methodsand contact networks will prove invaluable.
