APPENDIXINTRODUCTIONThe <strong>State</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong> report is produced every three years to review broad progress on delivery <strong>of</strong><strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Park</strong> Management Plan and to monitor wider environmental, social and economictrends in <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Park</strong>. The <strong>State</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong> reports focus on outcomes and <strong>the</strong> general state<strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>National</strong> <strong>Park</strong> ra<strong>the</strong>r than outputs and <strong>the</strong> delivery <strong>of</strong> specific projects or actions. The sameset <strong>of</strong> indicators has been used over a number <strong>of</strong> years, enabling longer term trends to be drawnout. This report follows <strong>the</strong> format <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> 2009 report and contains just <strong>the</strong> headline indicators – awider suite <strong>of</strong> indicators was contained in <strong>the</strong> 2006 and 2003 <strong>State</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong> reports.A new <strong>National</strong> <strong>Park</strong> Management Plan was agreed in 2012 and <strong>the</strong>refore future <strong>State</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong>reports will be focusing upon delivery <strong>of</strong> this new Plan, although most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>State</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong>indicators are still relevant and are identified within <strong>the</strong> new Plan. It may be appropriate to use adifferent set <strong>of</strong> headline indicators which better reflect <strong>the</strong> aims and targets <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> new Plan, albeitthat <strong>the</strong>se indicators for which <strong>the</strong>re is a long established set <strong>of</strong> data will still be monitored.- 2 -<strong>State</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Park</strong> 2012
