And in so doing, it laid thefoundations of the “ SL legend ”.To this day, the “Gullwing” remains theepitome of the dream car for many. RefinementThe secret of our increased engine output ? It’s something in the airThe V6 engine in the new SL 350Thanks to a sophisticated package of technologicalimprovements the output of the SL 350 hasbeen boosted considerably. Its six - cylinder enginenow delivers 200 kW ( 272 hp ), while its peaktorque of 350 Nm is on tap all the way from 2400to 5000 rpm. The result : acceleration from 0 to100 km / h in only 6.6 seconds. That not only feelssporty, it sounds sporty, too – especially in conjunctionwith the sports air cleaner which is partof the optionally available sports package.One of the secrets of the V6 engine’s impressiveperformance is the use of four valves percylinder, with four camshafts which are continuouslyadjustable across the entire enginespeed range. This ensures that a high level oftorque and prodigious power reserves are alwaysavailable. Furthermore, in order to optimisecombustion, each of the six intake pipes isadjustable for length – a feature which improvesair supply significantly.The refinement of the SL 350 is as remarkableas its performance thanks to a balancer shaftwhich rotates in the opposite direction to thecrankshaft. In addition, our engineers have beenrigorous in their application of lightweight designprinciples. We have some good news for youThe vario - roof and the panoramic vario - roof – enjoy the SL open or closedThe innovative vario - roof of the SL makes itquieter and safer than practically any othercabriolet. With the roof closed, the passengersare protected not only from the weather, butalso from noise and other hazards.It is even possible to enjoy that special roadsterfeeling all year with the optional panoramicvario - roof. A glass roof replaces the conventionalmetal unit to ensure a superb view. On hot days,a manually extending blind protects you from toomuch sun.If you decide you want to be truly at one withnature, it takes just 16 seconds for the electrohydraulicallyoperated roof to disappear intothe rear of the car, where it nestles against therear windscreen to save space. In orderto maximise directional stability and road adhesion,the body – and thus the centre of gravity –is lowered automatically by up to 15 mm at highspeeds. The SL - Class has met the statutoryregulations governing the suitability of the vehicle’s design for reuse and recycling for a number of years now. A network of vehicletake - back depots and dismantlers has been established which will process your vehicle in an environment - friendly manner.The ways in which both vehicles and parts can be recovered are subject to ongoing development and improvement.
