Eachcoach will be given a packet that will include among other things: one ECU campus map, oneevent schedule, the location of your home base and any further or new announcements.Please bring your official team roster—turn in your roster and pick up your wrist bands.Wrist Bracelets WILL be used at regionalsRed----Varsity Green---Junior VarsityPublication Release Form: Please have each student on your team(s) complete the Publication ReleaseForm and turn in the completed forms at registration. These give the center for STEMEducation permission to use pictures taken on January 26 th to communicate information aboutthe <strong>Science</strong> <strong>Olympiad</strong>. Any student who does not have a signed Publication Release Formwill be required to wear an additional Neon Pink wristband.Vandalism and Behavior Form: Please turn in completed form at registration.Building Events: For building events, if the contestant is appealing the Event Leader’s decision, the devicemust stay in impound until arbitration.Impound:A. At 11:45--Take your Mousetrap Vehicle car to Bate Front Hall 2 nd Floor.B. At 11:45—Take your Mission Possible device to Bate 3006. The TSL is due at impound.Elastic Launched Glider: Bring all logs including your data/graphs with you. Please be sure the pages are clearlylabeled with school name and are stapled together. No notebooks—just the logs.The event room is theater–like with the ceiling height from 10 to 20 feet high. The HVACwill be on.Food <strong>Science</strong>;Teams must turn in a copy of their standard curve (document will not be returned).


Schedules:Location:Food:Scoring:Awards:Equipment:Behavior:Closed Events:Parking:Exact room locations of each event will be posted on the state <strong>Science</strong> <strong>Olympiad</strong> Website. Any last minute changes in event rooms will be reflected on the event scheduleincluded in the registration packet. It is the responsibility of the coach to provide theirstudents with copies of the schedule.The events will occur in Austin, Bate, Flanagan, Fletcher, Howell Complex, MarchingBand Practice Field, Rivers, <strong>Science</strong> and Technology Building and WrightAuditorium. All buildings are within easy walking distance of each other. Signs willbe used to mark the buildings and each event location.Please feel free to bring coolers and bag lunches. Food may be purchased at thesenearby vendors: Wendy’s, McDonald’s, Arby’s, Mike’s Deli, etc. Included in yourregistration packet will be several large trash bags. Please leave your home base roomclean, especially be sure that all food trash is in the trash bags.We will be following the national scoring procedures which means that “low score”wins at the tournament. More detailed information about scoring is on the state website.Students will be awarded medals for first, second, third and fourth place in each event.A trophy will be awarded to the schools finishing with the least amount of points forfirst, second, third and fourth place. First and second place trophies will be issued tothe low scoring Junior Varsity team. In addition, first and second place medal will beawarded to the low scoring Junior Varsity member in each event.If an event requires a team to bring materials and/or wear protective equipment, teamsmust comply (i.e., close-toed shoes, aprons, lab coats, OSHA-approved chemicalsplash goggles, pencil, protractor, ruler, USGS map symbol sheet, etc.)Students are reminded that school rules will apply at the competition. Do not bringboom boxes and walkmans into the event areas. Cell phones and walkie talkiesARE NOT ALLOWED in event rooms.All events are closed to parents and coaches except the following:Bottle Rocket Mission PossibleGravity Vehicle BoomileverMousetrap Vehicle TrajectorySee enclosed directions for parking the buses. Parents should park in the samelocation as the buses. They cannot park, however, in fire zones, no parking zones,etc., or in handicapped places without a HD permit.Wheel-chair accessible facilities:Please call Cheryl Miller at 252-328-6885 by January 14 th if you have a student orparent in your group who needs wheel-chair accessible facilities.2
