John’sTony Lockyer, Eastern Homebuilder’s AssociationGeorge Chalker, Heritage Foundation <strong>of</strong> NLAnne Hart, Citizen RepresentativeDave Blackmore, Director <strong>of</strong> Building and Property ManagementKen O’Brien, Manager <strong>of</strong> Planning & InformationPeter Mercer, Heritage OfficerMaureen Harvey, Recording Secretary1. 40 Henry <strong>St</strong>reet – Former <strong>St</strong>ar <strong>of</strong> the Sea propertySubsequent to a previous Heritage Advisory Committee meeting, the developer <strong>of</strong>the former “<strong>St</strong>ar <strong>of</strong> the Sea” property has submitted a revised design plan. TheCommittee met with the developer, Mr. Vahe Kouyoumdjian and reviewed the siteplan, floor plans, parking area plans, design concept, elevations and design rationale.Drawings are on file with the Office <strong>of</strong> the <strong>City</strong> Clerk.The Committee recommends approval <strong>of</strong> the July 27, <strong>2012</strong> design for there-development <strong>of</strong> the former “<strong>St</strong>ar <strong>of</strong> the Sea” property located at 40Henry <strong>St</strong>reet. The <strong>City</strong>'s Department <strong>of</strong> Planning will provide aseparate report to <strong>Council</strong> once all Planning, Engineering, and otherstaff reviews have been completed.2. <strong>10</strong>0 Water <strong>St</strong>reet – Breakwater Books BuildingThe Committee considered an application from KMK Development to demolish thebuilding located at <strong>10</strong>0 Water <strong>St</strong>reet which is designated by <strong>Council</strong> as a heritagebuilding.The Committee strongly recommends that <strong>Council</strong> reject the applicationfor demolition <strong>of</strong> property at <strong>10</strong>0 Water <strong>St</strong>reet. This building is animportant heritage structure by reason <strong>of</strong> its age, architecture andhistoric associations (see attached statement <strong>of</strong> historic significance).The building appears to be in sound structural condition.
