12 Community Change Project (continued) LGBT Affirming Activities The <strong>VCS</strong> Community Change Project celebrated the 10th year of Gay Pride Rockland at the annual event in June. Leading up to this community event, many outreach efforts were held to support the inclusion of LGBTQ individuals and families into the larger life of the community. Several of these invents included a juried art exhibit and art walk in Nyack; musical and performance concerts, film showings, an annual dance for gay pride and an honorary dinner. Some of these events were billed as fundraisers but all focused on the overarching theme of equality for all, with no exceptions. The 2008-2009 Directory of LGBT Friendly Businesses, Services and Community Organizations, a major resource for the LBGTQ community was the biggest yet, thanks to our many sponsors and advertisers. The directory is published on the website www.gaypriderockland.org. a carefully maintained vehicle that also provides on-going announcements and information throughout the year.

Some of the highlights of this work during 2008 were: �� Hosted the People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond – Undoing Racism Workshop in Rockland County for more than sixty new and returning attendees. This program is sponsored in conjunction with the Rockland County Executive, C. Scott Vanderhoef and the Rockland County Human Right’s Commission �� Presented an in-service workshop on racism to Rockland County Mental Health Association �� Conducted monthly Working Together for Racial Justice meetings. �� Meetings with People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond �� Presented at Rockland County Head Start’s annual staff retreat �� Presented at Childcare Resources of Rockland annual conference 13
