Richard Jusseaume, PresidentRichard Jusseaume, 6th president of <strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong>, was previous<strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> Board of Trustees Vice-Chair, and also served two termsas the <strong>University</strong>’s Dean of Students. The 1967 <strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> graduateworked for 36 years in education and has more than 17 years ofexperience in the corporate environment.He earned his B.A. degree summa cum laude and was namedOutstanding Student of the Year at <strong>Walsh</strong> in 1967. Then he pursuedfurther study at the <strong>University</strong> of Detroit (where he earned his Master’sDegree), at Cornell <strong>University</strong> and Kent State. He returned to <strong>Walsh</strong> in 1972 as Dean of StudentAffairs.After serving in the dean’s position a second time (from 1979 to1984), Jusseaume entered thecorporate world, where he learned the challenging lessons of leadership through his variousadministrative roles at Graphic Enterprises, Inc. in Canton, Ohio. Seven years later he became CEOof the firm, a position he held along with president and chairman of the board until his retirement inMay, 2001.Jusseaume and his wife Terie, have five children and make their home in Canton. Active in thecommunity, Jusseaume has held leadership posts with many organizations to which he belongs,including the Knights of Columbus, St. Michael’s Parish, the Chamber of Commerce, the StarkDevelopment Board, Trillium Family Solutions, Voyager, Charity of St. Augustine Health Systemand the Board of Community Services. He is also a member of the <strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> Athletic Wall ofFame.Dale Howard, Director of Athletics<strong>Walsh</strong>'s most enthusiastic and visible supporter, Dale Howardbegins his 24th year at <strong>Walsh</strong>, serving as Vice President for Athleticsand Director of Athletics. Howard is beginning his sixth year inathletics. He came to <strong>Walsh</strong> in 1989 as Dean of Students. Howardwas the driving force behind <strong>Walsh</strong>’s new basketball arena, and isleading the way to the NCAA at the division two level and the GreatLakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.Howard came to <strong>Walsh</strong> from Bowling Green State <strong>University</strong>. Hehas a master's degree in higher education administration from the<strong>University</strong> of Northern Colorado, Greeley and a B.S. in education from the State <strong>University</strong> atBrockport, New York.Howard and his wife, Janet are the parents of two boys, Ryan (Syracuse <strong>University</strong> ‘06, nowliving in New York City) and Matthew (St. Bonaventure <strong>University</strong>, ’08, now living in Arlington,Virginia), and a daughter, Kelli (12th grade, North Canton Hoover). <strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong>, founded in 1958 by the Brothersof Christian Instruction, is one of northeast Ohio'sfinest liberal arts and sciences universities. The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic ConferenceThe Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference(GLIAC), founded in 1972, has been a leader in theadvancement and promotion of intercollegiate athletics formen and women for 40 years.The charter members of the GLIAC were Ferris State<strong>University</strong>, Grand Valley State <strong>University</strong>, Lake Superior State<strong>University</strong>, Northwood <strong>University</strong> (then Institute), and SaginawValley State <strong>University</strong>.Expansion of the GLIAC began immediately with theaddition of Oakland <strong>University</strong> in 1974. Hillsdale College,Northern Michigan <strong>University</strong>, and Wayne State <strong>University</strong>were accepted as members in 1975. In 1977, the conferencelost its first member when Northern Michigan withdrew.Michigan Technological <strong>University</strong> filled the vacancy when itbecame a member in 1980. After the 1986-87 season,Northwood left the conference and was replaced by NorthernMichigan. Northwood rejoined the conference in 1992.After the 1989 season, the conference dropped football asa sponsored sport. The conference schools sponsoringfootball joined the members of the Heartland CollegiateConference in forming the football-only Midwest IntercollegiateFootball Conference (MIFC), which began play in 1990.After nine years as one of the premier conferences inDivision II football, the MIFC merged as part of GLIAC on July1, 1999. With the merger, the <strong>University</strong> of Indianapolisbecame an associate member as a football-only school.The GLIAC entered a new era in the 1995-96 school year.Prior to that time, all GLIAC member institutions were locatedin the state of Michigan. On Dec. 14, 1994, membership wasoffered to three schools located in Ohio and Pennsylvania.The expansion members were Ashland <strong>University</strong> of Ashland,Ohio, and Gannon <strong>University</strong> and Mercyhurst College, bothlocated in Erie, Pennsylvania. All three schools began theirmembership July 1, 1995.On July 1, 1997, membership was granted to The<strong>University</strong> of Findlay, located in Findlay, Ohio. UF replacedOakland <strong>University</strong>, which withdrew from the conference afterthe 1996-97 season as it moved to NCAA Division I status.The GLIAC membership changed again when Tiffin<strong>University</strong> of Ohio joined the conference in the 2008-09academic year. Tiffin was offered membership on June 20,2007. The addition of Tiffin left the GLIAC with 12 full-timemembers as Gannon and Mercyhurst moved to thePennsylvania State Athletic Conference after the 2007-08season.The GLIAC entered a new era during the 2009-10academic year. Commissioner Tom Brown, who had presidedover the league for 17 years, retried on June 30, 2009. Thelongest serving commissioner in the history of the GLIAC,Brown expanded the conference from 10 full members to 14full members and two associate members. Also under hisleadership, the conference has grown to offeringchampionships in 21 sports while rising to prominence on thenational level as GLIAC teams and student-athletes haveachieved success both in the classroom and on the fields ofplay.The Conference expanded on July 1, 2010 when Lake ErieCollege of Painesville, Ohio, and Ohio Dominican <strong>University</strong>,located in Columbus, joined the GLIAC. The League willfurther expand on July, 2012 when Malone <strong>University</strong> and<strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong>, both located in the Canton, Ohio area,become the 15th and 16th GLIAC members.The policy-making body of the GLIAC is the ManagementCouncil, which is comprised of three representatives fromeach member institution – its director of athletics, facultyathletics representative and senior woman administrator.The presidency of the GLIAC Management Council isrotated alphabetically by school, with Suzanne Sanregret,Director of Athletics at Michigan Technological <strong>University</strong>,serving as GLIAC President in 2012-13. Dr. Glenn Mroz,President of Michigan Technological <strong>University</strong>, will serve asthe chairperson of the GLIAC Presidents Council this year.The GLIAC made history in 2009 when it hired DellRobinson as Commissioner. Robinson became the first ethnicminority to serve as D-II commissioner of a non-historicallyblack college or university conference when he began hisduties on July 1, 2009.Assisting Robinson are: Penny Cook, Asst. GLIAC Commissioner Dell RobinsonDell Robinson became the GLIAC’s sixth commissioneron June 15, 2009.Robinson comes to the GLIAC having spent thelast 10 years at the Mid-American Conference (MAC)as the Associate Commissioner for Legislative andCompliance services. During his tenure with the MAChe acted as the staff liaison to the student-athleteadvisory committee, the faculty athletics representativesand the committee on infractions. He alsoserved as the conference administrator for men’ssoccer, men’s and women’s swimming/diving, men’stennis, and wrestling.Robinson has experience on the national level aswell, having been the MAC’s representative on theNCAA Management Council. He is the former chair ofthe Selection Review Committee which placed administratorson NCAA Committees, and has served onthe NCAA Sportsmanship Committee. Robinson earned his master's degree in sportsadministration from Iowa State <strong>University</strong> in 1992.While at Ohio, Robinson was in the Omega Psi PhiFraternity and still maintains an active role in theorganization.Selected as one of Cleveland’s Crain's BusinessMagazine’s 40 under 40, Robinson co-chaired of theParish Advisory Board at St. Agnes-Our Lady ofFatima and was a member of the Diocese ofCleveland Pastoral Council. Christina PaoneHead CoachFormer <strong>Walsh</strong> graduate (2006, Business Marketing), and fouryearletter winner, Christina Paone begins her second season as<strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> Women’s Golf Coach. In her first year the Cavswere quite successful, finishing 66-25 and capturing the five-teamOhio Independent Championships. <strong>Walsh</strong> won six tournamentchampionships and finished second in two others. Paone formerlyassisted at North Canton Hoover High School from 2008-10 as anassistant for the boys’ and girls’ programs.Paone graduated from Canton McKinley High School (2003) and was a member ofthe Bulldogs state qualifying team in 2002. She then played on <strong>Walsh</strong>’s firstintercollegiate team, and played on back-to-back American Mideast ConferenceChampionship teams in 2004 and 2005. <strong>Walsh</strong>’s 2005 team was the first team to qualifyfor the NAIA National Championships. Paone earned All-AMC honors four times and wasnamed All-Region IX in 2005 when she finished fourth at the AMC championships.Paone is also employed at WDJQ 92.5 radio and resides in Canton with her husbandJason, son Caden, and son, Roman (9/16/11).Abbey KimarAssistant CoachFormer <strong>Walsh</strong> letter winner Abbey Kimar joins the staff of ChristinaPaone as a student assistant coach. Kimar lettered four times for theCavs and played last year for Paone.Abbey earned first-team All-American Mideast Conference honorsas a junior, the same year she fired a 78 at the Best Western “Give 18Fore Cancer Classic.” She paced the Cavs with an 81 last year at The Legends in thefour-team Malone <strong>University</strong> Invitational.Kimar earned four high school letter at Jackson High School. 2013 <strong>Walsh</strong> <strong>University</strong> Women’s Golf Outlook“Building a Winner”After a highly successful first year, which wasfollowed by an outstanding fall, second year headcoach Christina Paone is optimistic as shecompletes her second full season this spring.<strong>Walsh</strong> finished the 2011-12 season 65-25 andcaptured six tournament titles and finishedsecond twice. This past fall, in <strong>Walsh</strong>’s first yearof Great Lakes Intercollegiate AthleticConference play, the Cavs were equallycompetitive and finished 25-20.This spring the Cavs play in threetournaments before competing in the GLIACChampionships in late April.Coach Paone entered the fall with the task ofreplacing veterans Kim Smith, Nikki Kulasa, KatyCollins and Abbey Kimar. The foursome hadbeen the foundation of the Cavs’ highly successful program.But don't be alarmed though, as the cupboard is not bare. Paone returns seniorsKatie Kohut (Twinsburg, OH/<strong>Walsh</strong> Jesuit) and Nicole Barr (Canton, OH/South), alongwith sophomores Amanda Griffin (Tallmadge, OH/HS) and Jenny Tsangeos (Canton,OH/GlenOak). Paone then recruited a superb freshmen class that consists of KaylaHardesty (Minerva, OH/Marlington), Meghan Hatfield (North Canton, OH/Jackson) andTaylor Henderhan (Massillon, OH/Perry).Tsangeos put together an outstanding freshman year and continued to excel thispast fall. Kohut is battle tested and will challenge every week. Hardesty, Hatfield andGriffin round out the top five, with Barr and Henderhan keeping the pressure on.Coach Paone is confident in her young squad.
