Pathways to Success<br />

The OCDSB continues to develop new and innovative programming<br />

aimed at providing secondary school students with learning opportunities<br />

that meet the needs of all students to support their Pathways<br />

to Success. The Pathways to Success initiatives focus on helping<br />

students to make successful transitions in high school. The following<br />

are specific programs that support successful student transitioning:<br />

LINK Crew is a high school transition program that welcomes and<br />

supports grade 9 students throughout the first year of their highschool<br />

experience. Built on the belief that students can help students<br />

succeed, LINK Crew coordinators (teachers) train selected grade 11<br />

and 12 students to be LINK Leaders. As positive role models, LINK<br />

Leaders are motivators , mentors and facilitators who guide the<br />

incoming grade 9 students to discover what it takes to be successful<br />

during their transition into high school. LINK Crew begins with<br />

an Orientation Day and the grade 9 transition program continues,<br />

providing a variety of both academic and social follow-up activities<br />

throughout the year, all of which are presented by trained LINK<br />

Leaders during visits to grade 9 classes.<br />

The Student Success Program focuses on students who, during<br />

their high school years, need additional help to be successful in their<br />

courses and in their credit accumulation. Students in this program<br />

are supported by a Student Success teacher found in every high<br />

school. Support is offered to students through Credit Rescue and<br />

Credit Recovery classes as well as Learning Strategies courses, and/<br />

or Guidance and Career Education (Discovering the Workplace at<br />

grade 10 and Navigating the Work- place at grade 12) courses.<br />

Program Pathways consists of the combination of courses that<br />

make up a student’s educational program and the supports provided<br />

by the program. A properly planned Program Pathway not only<br />

motivates students to complete their goals, it ensures they have<br />

the right combination of courses and supports required to get them<br />

there. A Program Pathway will help students be successful in their<br />

transition from high school to the workplace, apprenticeship, college,<br />

Experiential Learning<br />

When planning their Program Pathway, students might consider exploring<br />

the following Experiential Learning opportunities (eg. courses<br />

or skill development) to support their pathway goal:<br />

Dual Credits Program with Algonquin College — earn a high<br />

school credit and college credit concurrently www.passpathways.on.ca<br />

Dual Credits<br />

The Dual Credit Programs with Algonquin College are intended to<br />

assist secondary students in the completion of their Ontario Secondary<br />

<strong>School</strong> Diploma (OSSD) and successful transition to college and<br />

apprenticeship programs.<br />

Students can count a maximum of four college-delivered dual<br />

credits as optional credits towards the OSSD.<br />

Dual credits cannot be used as substitutions for compulsory<br />

credit requirements.<br />

Admission Procedures for Dual Credits Entry into the Dual Credit<br />

Program will be guided through Student Services / Dual Credit<br />

Contact Teacher(s) at the school. <strong>District</strong>s/schools and colleges will<br />

coordinate the exchange of academic progress information (marks<br />

and attendance) between colleges and secondary schools to support<br />

student success. Students (and, where appropriate, parents) will be<br />

informed of the credit value, evaluation approaches, and required<br />

passing grade for the college course and how information, including<br />

attendance records, will be shared between the college and the secondary<br />

school in accordance with the Freedom of Information and<br />

Protection of Privacy Act. For more information about Dual Credit<br />
