About 400meters prior to <strong>the</strong> parish church on <strong>the</strong> left (sign for <strong>the</strong> Wildbach Hut),<strong>the</strong> road takes us uphill to <strong>the</strong> right to <strong>the</strong> „Wildbach Hut“ car park at <strong>the</strong>Purggergut, <strong>the</strong> highest farm <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Lungau</strong> region at 1,400 m above sealevel. From roofsh<strong>in</strong>gles to cook<strong>in</strong>g spoons,from fences to k<strong>in</strong>dl<strong>in</strong>g anddr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g troughs, orig<strong>in</strong>allyeveryth<strong>in</strong>g was made ofwood. Know<strong>in</strong>g preciselywhich wood was best for agiven purpose required a lotof experience and expertise.Spruce wood, for example, isgood for construction and burn<strong>in</strong>g. When cur<strong>in</strong>g meats, spruce wood ismixed with juniper. Larch withstands moisture, mak<strong>in</strong>g it ideal for roofs,fences and dr<strong>in</strong>k<strong>in</strong>g troughs. Birch, willow and barberry are tough andflexible woods, lend<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>mselves well to be<strong>in</strong>g shaped <strong>in</strong>to tools. At<strong>the</strong> Dorfer Hut <strong>in</strong> Seetal, visitors can see, learn, touch and try out <strong>the</strong>tools. The Fuchsberger family is always glad to share <strong>the</strong>ir knowledgewith anyone who is <strong>in</strong>terested.Alp<strong>in</strong>e Flavor – Dorfer HutThe Dorfer Hut, which is located <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> idyllic Seetal Valley, offersmouth-water<strong>in</strong>g homemade hams. Guests are welcome to try bothcooked and raw hams. Served with fresh farmhouse bread, <strong>the</strong> foodcouldn’t taste any more delicious. As an alternative we recommend ahike from Gasthof Klausnerwirt.
