COLLECTIONChuck Close’s Georgia (above) was seen in the film titled“Legal Eagles.”<strong>The</strong> <strong>Butler</strong>’s prestigious <strong>American</strong>Western collection is strongly representedwith seventeen images appearingin the current film release <strong>of</strong>“<strong>The</strong> Assassination <strong>of</strong> Jesse James bythe Coward Robert Ford” starring BradPitt. <strong>The</strong> <strong>Butler</strong> images (not theactual paintings) were loaned to theproduction company for a onetimeuse, and were reproduced in the filmas a part <strong>of</strong> the motion picture’s setdesign.<strong>Butler</strong> collection images appear inmany books and art catalogues, andhave been seen in other Hollywoodfilms in the past. EXHIBITIONSSeptember through December , <strong>Butler</strong> Installation <strong>of</strong> Andrew Wyeth Watercolors & DrawingsAndrew Wyeth Watercolors & Drawings:Selections from the Marunuma <strong>Art</strong> Park Collection (Japan)Andrew Wyeth (b. ) is America’s premier realist painter. This exhibition, first seen at theCincinnati <strong>Art</strong> Museum (Ohio) and the Gilcrease Museum (Oklahoma), presents thirty years <strong>of</strong>Wyeth’s fascination with the Olson family in Cushing Maine. <strong>The</strong> exhibition <strong>of</strong> works, drawn fromthe collection <strong>of</strong> the Marunuma <strong>Art</strong> Park (Japan), has had unprecedented attendance in its final venueat the <strong>Butler</strong> <strong>Institute</strong>. Thanks to a grant from National City Bank and additional support from Dr.Robert Baker, this exhibit is on view at the <strong>Butler</strong> free <strong>of</strong> chargeNovember through November , Giuseppe Leone: PhotographsThis exhibition consists <strong>of</strong> black-and-white and color images taken by a Sicilian photographer. <strong>The</strong>first part <strong>of</strong> the exhibition includes photographs inspired by the Baroque architecture <strong>of</strong> Sicily’s NotoValley, a region declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO, which is situated in southeastern Sicily,among the towns Catania, Siracusa, and Ragusa. <strong>The</strong> second part <strong>of</strong> the exhibition features photographs<strong>of</strong> religious festivals that take place in Sicily throughout the year.7


PEOPLE/EVENTSSeptember , the <strong>Butler</strong> hosted a preview party to celebrate the opening <strong>of</strong>the exhibition Andrew Wyeth Watercolors and Drawings: Selections from theMarunuma <strong>Art</strong> Park Collection (Japan). Attending the event were twelve representativesfrom the Marunuma <strong>Art</strong> Park, along with the museum’s curator OtoyoNakumura (all seen above left). Additionally, the <strong>Butler</strong> was honored by theattendance <strong>of</strong> the owners <strong>of</strong> the collection, Mr. and Mrs. Katsushige Susaki, andAndrew Wyeth’s only grandchild, art historian Victoria Wyeth (all seen aboveright).Others attending the event were curator Mary Landa from the BrandywineRiver Museum (Chadds Ford, PA) and curator Rebecca Posage from the Cincinnati<strong>Art</strong> Museum, the organizing institution for the traveling exhibition.AbbeyRoad Rocks the Museum!November , the <strong>Butler</strong> in conjunction with Y- FM presented the sixthannual AbbeyRoad concert in the museum’s Beecher Court.
