MEMBER (AM) IN THE GENERAL DIVISION OF THE ORDER OF AUSTRALIAMr Peter Stannett KINGSTON, Lavender Bay NSW 2060For service to the visual arts as a painter, printmaker and cartoonist, and to thepreservation and conservation of the natural environment and historical locations.Mr Kingston is a contemporary Sydney painter, printmaker and cartoonist with a careerspanning 40 years. His work depicts many of Sydney's heritage locations including theharbour surrounds of Luna Park, the Opera House, Botanic Gardens, Finger Wharves andTaronga Zoo.His work is held in various public collections including the National Gallery of Australia, mostState and Regional Galleries, the Museum of Sydney, the Mitchell Library, the National FilmLibrary in Tokyo, Japan, and the Bibliotheque de la Ville in Belgium.During the 1970s he was part of the ‘Yellow House collective’ that included the late BrettWhiteley AO, Martin Sharp AM, and Ellis Fogg.His sculptures which have been installed along Lavender Bay boardwalk - depicting children’sliterature characters including Blinky Bill, Boofhead and Ginger Megs (known as the HiddenTreasures Collection when donated to the community).He has held numerous solo exhibitions since 1978, particularly Australian Galleries, Sydney.Numerous Groups Exhibitions including Australian Galleries, Sydney; Museum of Sydney,S H Ervin Gallery; and Art Gallery of New South Wales.Involved in the establishment of the ‘Artists in Residence’ program at Taronga Zoo (whereeach year artists donate their works for auction by the Zoo); also supported the Taronga andTaronga Western Plains Zoos’ Tasmanian Devil and Asian Elephant breeding programsthrough the donation of his works.Actively involved in the campaign to save Luna Park and the historic elements of itssurrounds.Volunteer and advocate for the conservation of the home of May Gibbs - 'Nutcote'.Actively campaigned for the preservation of Hinchinbrook Island as a World Heritage area,the retention of historic pier 2/3 at Walsh Bay, and the inclusion of the Drip Water Gorge intothe state national park on the Goulburn River at Ulan, New South Wales.127
