20A few testimonials to share with:-Thanks tothe W group Gives BackIt was a day that I will never forget. I was reminded again howprivileged I am in my life as I was surrounded by fifty “child-inneeds”on that beautiful Sunday morning.In case you are misled by the title, I was one of thevoluntaries of the W group Gives Back charity event. Why thethanks to the W group? It all started with a generosity act ofthe management which allowed me and my colleagues to beinvolved in this charity. I was granted an opportunity by theExecutive Chairman,Mr. Tony Wong, to be the team leader forthe charity visit to St. Theresa Hostel, Kota Marudu. To most,it may sound like a job assignment instructed by themanagement. To me, it was definitely more than just a worktask.On 16th January 2011, our arrival was welcomed by the children,surrounding us and shaking our hands enthusiasticallyas we alighted the cars filled with goodies. Some were shyand yet they didn’t want to miss shaking hands with each andevery one of us. They enjoyed visitors, I can see. I would notbe able to forget their smiling eyes, their toothy-happy-grinfrom ear to ear and their shy yet excited look which revealedin their hidden body languages. Such sincere welcome fromthem made our two and half journey drive worthwhile.The unloading of goods was fast and efficient, with theassistance from the children. Again, I was reminded how luckyI am. Their babyish body-frame seemed to disappear behindthe gigantic cartons of goodies. All I could see was theirslender arms hugging the sack of rice as they walked towardstheir hostel. And all I could remember at that particularmoment was that my team members and I are just plainblessed in life.I admire the children’s good discipline. The sisters indeedhave done a wonderful job in raising and educating them –not only within the classroom, but also in social behaviours.Don’t be confused by the shyness of these children. Whenthe ‘spotlight’ is on them, their shyness fade away and theirreal self is revealed. This is evident in their performances andgames that we co-ordinated for them. I truly enjoyed theirperformances, particularly the song that they sang to us, titled“You are my Sunshine”. I really felt like I wasSunshine on that day.spotted a tiny sticker on the wall, beside a bed in the girl’shostel. The sticker was faded and looked like it has beenthere for quite some time. There was nothing special aboutthat sticker but a phrase in it caught my eyes –“Compliments from the W group”. Sister Marysia, who waswith me at that time, looked into my eyes and said, “Thechildren do remember where the contributions came from.the W group never miss to visit us over the years.” My teammembers and I were first timer tovisit St. TheresaHostel, but the W group was here many years back. A little,faded sticker, a symbol of generosity from the W group tothe homes over the years, made me proud to represent thiscompany at that moment. I look forward to many more momentslike this in the future.Thanks to the W group Gives Back, the children are blessedwith your helping hands and kind hearts. I can see from theirsmiles, hear from their laughter, and feel from their joy, thatthey really appreciate what they have received from the Wgroup. Physical presents can make them smile for the day,but our presence will give them hope that people do care. Ibelieve this matter most to them.Congratulations to the W group Gives Back! I have been here since I wasin Form 3 until Upper 6. I came from a broken family. Myfather was a drunkard, a heavy drinker and my motheroften became the victim, repeatedly beaten before oureyes.I did not know anything about love before this but whenI came as a student here, I slowly learn about loving andcaring. Friends and Sisters around me tried untiringly toguide and offer useful advice and reflections to make mylife better. They never blame or point a finger at me butconstantly encouraged and showed me the real meaningof life when I was desperately giving up on life itself.I sat for my SPM in 2006. My result then was not verygood. Somehow, I am happy because I qualified for Form6. Thank God I passed my STPM with flying colourscoming out as one of the top ten achievers.While waiting for my STPM results, I worked in one ofthe plastic factory in Kota Kinabalu to earn some moneyfor my future studies. Unfortunately, due to somemachinery faults, I lost 2 of my fingers on my right hand.But nothing can stop me to go further in life. I thankedGod that with my plastic fingers, I can still write, workand further my studies and surely get a good job oneyear from now.Today, this year I am back at St. Maria Goretti for myone-year practical in the General Hospital of Keningauto complete my 4th and 5th semesters. I have signedan official contract with the Malaysian Health Ministry(Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia) to become a qualifiedMedical Laboratory Technologist after my 3 years study.Deep from the bottom of my heart, I am thankful to Godfor the Sisters, friends and all benefactors who havehelped us at St. Maria Goretti Hostel. the W group is oneof our “angels” who have always supported andunderstood us.
