(d) We must ask the child to memorise the chapters of the Qur`ªan, al-Anfªal, at-Tawbah, al-Ahzªab, and its different verses that speak of jihªad. We must explain to them thebackground against which these verses were revealed. We must narrate to them the deeds ofbravery and valour of the Prophet and his companions during the Battles of Badr, Khandaqand Hunain. <strong>The</strong>y will gain inspiration from these accounts and yearn to take part in jihªadand to communicate the word of Allah to their fellow beings. <strong>The</strong>y will not defer even in theface of strong criticism.(e) We must inspire our children to submit to the will of Allah and understand that whateverhappens is just as He ordains. <strong>The</strong>y may thus realise at times of distress that they could nothave avoided the misfortune. When they fail to procure what they most desired they mayrealise that it was the will of Allah and by their own efforts they would never have gainedanything whatever. <strong>The</strong>y may know that if the entire creation joined forces to theiradvantage, they could benefit them only to the extent Allah willed. Thus, when the time ofdeath arrives, it may not be advanced a moment or prolonged a bit. It is only Allah Who giveslife and causes death. It is He Who provides benefit or loss and bestows honour and disgrace.Only He has power over all things and is able to do what He wills. <strong>The</strong>re are many poems onthis topic.581 [152]<strong>The</strong>se are the significant points on the spirit of jihªad. Adopt them and create in your childrena longing for jihªad. As young men they may be alert and prepared to respond to the call ofjihªad spontaneously when the need arises. <strong>The</strong>y may pour in courageously withoutcompunction or hesitation, fearing only Allah and none else. <strong>The</strong> intention once made, theywill be in a state of jihªad until they achieve for Islam its lost glory. Allah will help theBelievers. He helps whom He wills. He is All-Powerful, Most Merciful.CONCLUSIONYou have read in this book a detailed discussion on the upbringing of children as prescribedby Islam.
