Worship ServicesChildren are welcome at all worship services. Achildren’s homily with a clergy member is heldin the Children’s Chapel. Upon their return theyexperience the celebration of the Eucharist inthe Chancel and then with their families at thealtar. The 11:15 am service also provides a Children’sChapel for children during the sermon.They rejoin their families to celebrate the Eucharist.All baptized children are welcome to receivecommunion.Nursery CareChildcare is available during both services, as wellas during the Christian Formation hour. James’s uses The Journey to Adulthood program,a curriculum designed to nurture young peoplethrough the impressionable and formative years ofyoung adulthood by addressing adolescent issuesthrough the lens of our Christian belief system. TheJourney to Adulthood Sunday morning program is dividedinto two parts – Rite-13 and J2A.Rite-13 Sixth and Seventh GradesRite-13 celebrates the gift of gender and focuses onall aspects of the individual: self, society, sexuality,and spirituality. One of the primary goals in thisinitial stage of The Journey to Adulthood program isbuilding community. The second year of Rite-13culminates in a liturgical Rite-13 Ceremony, a celebrationbased loosely on the Jewish bar mitzvahrepresenting the separation from family highlightedin the rites-of-passage steps.J2AEighth and Ninth GradesJ2A builds on the lessons learned in Rite-13,focusing on six necessary skills of adulthood: listening,assertion, negotiation, research and informationmanagement, partnership, and leadership.Ninth grade students may choose Confirmationbefore the bishop as the culmination of their J2Aexperience.High School Tenth through Twelfth GradesWe offer a program for high school students offeringfood and fellowship in the youth lounge inthe Michaux House during the Sunday morningChristian Education hour.10
