FacultyIPEDSFacultyFLSA: Exempt Reports to VICE PRESIDENT OF STUDENT AFFAIRSPOSITION SUMMARYDirect, supervise, coach and oversee safety of cheer squad. Responsible for developing and teachingroutines, coordinating the evaluation and selection of cheer squad members, attending and evaluatingperformances, and enforcing team rules and discipline. Primary duties will be conducted Septemberthrough February.MAJOR FUNCTIONS1. Conducting squad tryouts.2. Creating and coaching routines.3. Monitoring and supervising practices and other squad activities.4. Attending all home basketball games (~15 during basketball season) and other specified eventsas assigned.5. Encouraging crowd involvement at events.6. Enforcing team rules and discipline.7. Establish risk management initiatives and safety and accident protocols.KNOWLEDGE AND CRITICAL SKILLS/EXPERTISE1. Knowledge in the fundamentals of cheerleading and a minimum of three (3) years related cheercoach experience required.2. Bachelor’s degree preferred.3. AACCA Certification (American Association of <strong>Cheer</strong>leading <strong>Coach</strong>es and Administrators)preferred.4. CPR and First Aid Certification.5. Demonstrate proper understanding of techniques, mechanics, and fundamentals cheering.6. Ability to physically spot falls safely.7. Ability to work successfully with diverse campus populations.8. Proficiency in written and oral communication skills and utilization of computers.9. Evidence of organizational skills, including the ability to organize tasks, set and accomplishpriorities and goals, and evaluate continuous progress toward goals.


2WORKING CONDITIONS1. Majority of time indoors in a gym, office or classroom environment with minimal exposure to temperaturechanges, noise, dust or chemicals. Could involve minimal outdoor time.2. Responsibilities sometimes involve evening and weekend work.3. Access information using computers.4. A neat appearance and appropriate apparel are required.PHYSICAL DEMANDS1. Ability to demonstrate and clearly explain cheer skills to student athletes.2. Ability to function successfully in a fast-paced, often changing environment.3. Able to physically spot squad members safely.CREATIVE AND ANALYTICAL SKILLS1. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oralor diagram form.2. Ability to devise or modify methods or processes to solve specific problems.3. Ability to determine when the problem is beyond the scope of the position and hand it off to theappropriate individual.LANGUAGE/COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS1. Effective telephone communication skills, including ability to obtain and provide informationverbally.2. Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of people, including students and the generalpublic.3. Ability to understand oral or written instructions, and to ask appropriate questions forclarification.4. Ability to read English in order to proofread and perform grammatical and spelling edits.
