Basketball Australia Annual Report 2008Basketball Australia Annual Report 2008AustralianClubChampionshipsPhoto: Kangaroo PhotoBy the tournament’s conclusion, the RockhamptonRockets were crowned as the best male basketballclub in Australia and the Townsville Flames werecrowned women’s Champions for the second yearin succession.It was the second year in a row that Queensland’schampions have completed a men’s and women’sACC double.At the conclusion of the event the men’s andwomen’s All-Star Fives were announced:Photo: Kangaroo Photo20 www.basketball.net.auThe 2008 Australian Club Championships (ACC) brought together the best men’s and women’s teams from theWaratah ABL , SEABL, QABL, Central ABL and Big V competitions for their shot at national glory, with the eventheld at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre in August.Rockhampton booked its place in the men’s deciderafter a thrilling 100-93 victory over the SandringhamSabres in the Semi Final while the Chargers beat theMelbourne Tigers 128-126 in overtime in the otherSemi Final.In the men’s Grand Final, the Rockets defeated theHobart Chargers in a cliff hanger, 103-99, with grandfinal MVP Ryan McDade finishing with a massive 24points and 19 rebounds.In the women’s Grand Final, the Townsville Flamesmade it double celebrations for Queenslandteams, clinching back-to-back national women’schampionships. The Flames, who edged out theKilysth Cobras 77-71 in their semi, overpowered theSydney Comets 73-57 in the decider.
