Basketball Australia Annual Report 2007/08Basketball Australia Annual Report <strong>2008</strong>MarketingPhoto: Courtesy of Australia PostIn the lead up to the Beijing Olympics in August, <strong>2008</strong> it was a busy year for the Marketing Department.EventsPhoto: Courtesy of Australia Post40 www.basketball.net.auOpals World Challenge: The Opals contested threegames against Chinese Taipei held in Terrigal onthe NSW Central Coast, where posters and flyerspromoting the event were distributed throughout thenorthern regions of Sydney and New South Wales.Boomers World Challenge and Ramsay Shield: TheBoomers hosted a three-game series against Iranin June in Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne with theseries broadcast live on Fox Sports, followed bythe <strong>annual</strong> Ramsay Shield against New Zealand inMelbourne. Posters and flyers were distributed topromote the event.Opals v Brazil Series: Significant sponsorship forthis two-game series in Wollongong and Sydneywas provided by the NSW Department of Sport andRecreation. Posters, flyers and viral campaigns wereproduced to market and promote the series, with theSydney game televised on Fox Sports.Farewell Luncheon: The Boomers and Opals werefarewelled at a stunning luncheon held on the topfloor of the Q1 building - Q Deck on the Gold Coast.Both teams were presented with custom made ringscourtesy of the Australian Opal Cutters sponsorshipwith Basketball Australia.The WNBL: Several marketing items were producedto support both the League and its clubs includingposters distributed pre-season, fixture cards andprogram cover pages.Australia Post Junior Boomers ClinicsAustralia Post held for the second consecutive yeara series of Junior Boomers Clinics. In a nationalpromotion, the Boomers revisited their primaryschools to hold coaching clinics for studentswith participating students receiving a showbag containing Australia Post and Aussie Hoopsmerchandise. Boomers participating in the clinicsincluded Jason Smith, Adam Gibson, Luke Schenscher,Mark Worthington, CJ Bruton, Russell Hinder, JacobHolmes and Patty Mills.SponsorshipContinuing their support of Basketball Australia wereAustralia Post and the Australian Defence Force asnaming rights sponsors of the Boomers and Opals.The Australian Sports Commission also continuedto provide significant contributions to the sport ofBasketball as our principal partner. BA gratefullyacknowledges and recognises the support of itssponsors including: Australia Post, the AustralianDefence Force, Peak, Molten, Sporting Pulse,Australian Opal Cutters, Gatorade, Kombat, Skins,Thermoskin, Coast 2 Coast, Beiersdorf, Alpha SportsMedicine, Southern Design and Print, Champion,Rising Stars and Kangaroo Media.RebrandingThroughout <strong>2008</strong> a tremendous amount of workwas undertaken to rebrand the sport, uniting itaesthetically with a consistent look and feel. Thefruits of that effort will be witnessed in April 2009when the new branding is completed, launched andimplemented.Mid way through <strong>2008</strong> the General Manager of Salesand Marketing, Nicole Pensko, departed BasketballAustralia after three years with the organisation.The newly created position of General Manager ofCommercial Operations will be filled by DominicTeakle in January 2009.www.basketball.net.au41
