The IB course of study:• Encourages international-mindedness• Encourages a positive attitude to learning• Is rigorous• Reflects real life• Emphasizes the development of the whole student-physically, intellectually, emotionally and ethically. The IB Primary Years Programme frames the learning activities of the schoolcommunity. The framework is flexible enough to incorporate state, local, nationaland international curricula. IB Primary Years Programme is designed to enablestudents to move directly into the IB Middle Years Programme and then theDiploma Programme.Charter schools are public schools, but they are not run by the school districtsthat approve them. The funding comes from the student home district on a perpupil basis as it does for all other charter schools. This collaborative effort is afirst in York County and has many distinguished educators, school administrators, school board members and community and business leaders involved in allphases. For any one school district to undertake the necessary funding needed topursue and achieve International Baccalaureate accreditation, the costs would beprohibitive. As well, smaller school districts would not have the potential studentpool to adequately maintain and grow the program. The regional charter approachis a most innovative and cost effective manner in which to afford our students thebest opportunities without an undue burden on taxpayers. If you are interested in learning more about the York Academy Charter Schooland the International Baccalaureate Programme, please call or e-mail. The strength of theYork Suburban program is our phenomenal teacherswho bring artistry and enthusiasm to it.”Parents play a key role in reading preparedness, the educators said. “Parents should read to and readwith their children.” “We will have an on-line computercomponent for home use, eventually,” KimberlyStoltz said. That will allow parents to become evenmore involved with their children’s language artsprograms.Meet New Director of YSStudent ServicesAs the new Director ofStudent Services for theYork Suburban School District,Dr. Bettie J.
