The <strong>Alcohol</strong> <strong>and</strong> Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) oversees theregulation of the <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Occasion</strong> Permit (SOP) program. The Liquor ControlBoard of Ontario (LCBO) reviews <strong>and</strong> issues SOPs on behalf of the AGCO.A <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Occasion</strong> Permit (SOP) applicationform <strong>and</strong> application guide can be obtainedfrom the AGCO’s websiteat: www.agco.on.caPUBLICWhen do you need a <strong>Public</strong>Event <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Occasion</strong> Permit?If you are planning an event open tothe public <strong>and</strong> you wish to sell or servealcohol, you will need to apply for <strong>and</strong>obtain a <strong>Special</strong> <strong>Occasion</strong> Permit (SOP).<strong>Public</strong> Event permits can be issued:• to charities registered under theIncome Tax Act (Canada),• to a non-profit organization orassociation organized to promotecharitable, educational, religiousor community objects; or• for an event of municipal, provincial,national or international significance.A <strong>Public</strong> Event may be advertisedto members of the public.<strong>Alcohol</strong> may be sold at a profit, allowing forfundraising through the sale of alcohol.How to apply for a <strong>Special</strong><strong>Occasion</strong> PermitAn SOP application form <strong>and</strong> application guidecan be obtained from any LCBO store or fromthe AGCO’s website at www.agco.on.ca .Applications must be submitted to an LCBOSOP service store. Applying for a <strong>Public</strong> Event<strong>Special</strong> <strong>Occasion</strong> PermitApplications for SOPs are availablePurchasing alcoholWhether you have a Sale or No Sale permit,you must purchase alcohol under yourAdvertisingAdvertising is permitted for all <strong>Public</strong><strong>Events</strong>. In general, advertisements cannotat LCBO stores or on the AGCO’spermit from an authorized governmentpromote the consumption of alcohol. Forwebsite at www.agco.on.ca .retail store (LCBO store, LCBO Agencymore information on liquor advertisingstore, The Beer Store or authorizedplease refer to Liquor AdvertisingYou must be at least 19 years ofmanufacturer’s retail store). Where there is a breach ofthe Liquor Licence Act or Regulations,administrative action may be taken,including the use of monetary penalties.Please answer all questions onthe application form as incompleteapplications cannot be processed.If any specific risks are identified duringthe application review process, theAGCO may add one or more conditionsFor outdoor events you must submita sketch showing the dimensions(size) of the proposed permit area <strong>and</strong>the location of any tiered seating.Application feesThe fee for a Sale permit is $75.00 for upto three consecutive days or less. At a Saledesignate someone in writing to attend inyour absence.
