P A G E 3Orientation continued...Nighttime activities for Orientation weekend included a pool partywith 90’s trivia, dodge ball, capture the flag and Haze, a documentaryabout alcohol abuse and hazing awareness.New WashingMachines!Over the summer, allthe laundry rooms incampus residence hallswere remodeled andnew machines were installed.In addition, studentscan now receiveupdates about theirlaundry through texts oronline!The <strong>St</strong>udent Activities Unionhas already been verybusy this semester! Duringthe first week of classes, <strong>St</strong>.<strong>Andrews</strong> <strong>St</strong>udent ActivitiesUnion hosted Sex Signals,a comedic duo who promotesex education. Thisevent was a huge success inmaking students aware ofsexual harassment. DuringEvents On CampusFreshmen Ellen Tobin and Kate Orton compete inthe Regatta.the first weekend, SAU put on a 90’s themed party featuring90’s music, not to mention some crazy costumes. Theweekend of September 18 th was Luau!During the day, a Regatta was held andfour handmade boats were launched intothe lake. Only two survived the trip.That night, a luau themed dance rockedBelk Main Lounge. On Sunday, studentsplayed with canoes and kayaks on thelake finishing off a fun, relaxing weekendthanks to our SAU.The Viking Team celebrates after their victory with an impressivewooden boat.


P A G E 4<strong>St</strong>udent ActivitiesThe <strong>St</strong>udent Activities Union meets to discuss campus events. Membershipis open to all students.<strong>St</strong>udents enjoy the natural beauty of the lake during an activity sponsored by the<strong>St</strong>udent Activities Union.


Scene &SeenSex Signals was both entertaining and educational.<strong>St</strong>udents prepare to compete in the Regatta.Dr. Morten teaches a student about fingerprinting during Forensics.


V O L U M E 1 1 , E D I T I O N IP A G E 6Passport ProgramBeginning Fall <strong>2010</strong>, <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Andrews</strong>has created a new programto encourage student involvementand school spirit.Participation in the programis specifically for first-yearstudents. The Passport Programrequires freshmen inWRT 110 and WRT 100 to attendthree activities this semester. Thedesignated activities must includean athletic/equestrian event, anacademic program, and a studentlife event. Examples include a soccergame, Writer’s Forum, Regatta,and Dance Party (<strong>St</strong>udentLife). The students are then askedto write responses for their WRTclass on the events they attend.Council of 2014Thanks to the Council of 2014, the September Blood Drive had thehighest number of donors in the past three years.The newly created Council of 2014is a council made up of freshmenthat organizes and hosts events forthe campus. All first-year studentsare welcome to participate. TheCouncil gives first-year students anopportunity to hold leadership positions,practice program management,work together, learn how to problemsolve, and share their creativity.The council has already helped advertiseand encourage sign up for the community Blood Drive, put on a talent showwhich was a hit with the students, and initiated a Game Day Tailgate.

P A G E 8Equestrian <strong>News</strong>The Equestrian Center has been busythis year hosting IHSA Hunt Seat and Westernshows, in addition to putting on Showing Underthe <strong>St</strong>ars in-house shows. The dressage teamwill put on a show later in the semester,but hosted a clinic in themeantime. All the teams have beenworking hard in lessons and practicerides as well as keeping thebarn and horses neat and clean.At the therapeutic riding barn, the ponies are workingwith the student instructors to give kids and adultswith disabilities in the community a chance to learn ridingskills. For the Halloween-themed Showing Under the<strong>St</strong>ars, riders and their horses dress up in creative costumes.


P A G E 9Relay for LifeAs <strong>October</strong> is Breast Cancer Research & Awareness Month,Team SAPC began its twenty-four hour participation in the Relayfor Life of ScotlandCounty on <strong>October</strong> 1, <strong>2010</strong>in order to raise money forfinding a cure. Forty-fourteams from around Scotlandcounty registered toparticipate. Not only wasthe event itself inspiring,but the days leading up toit. The <strong>St</strong>. <strong>Andrews</strong> teamcaptain, Renée PortorsnokTeam Leader Renee Jones (left) stands by the tent.Jones (Director of Career Services), wasted no time recruitingnew members to the team. The original fundraising goal wasmodestly set at $500. However, by the end of the event, TeamSAPC had far exceeded its $500 goal, collectively raising agrand total of $1130.
