Instead, for thefirst time, each foursome was given acell phone.Now before you purists who thinkthat cell phones should be banned fromgolf courses – as well as clubhouses,restaurants and just about anywhere elseone side of a conversation can annoyothers – we should explain that thesephones weren’t being handed out so thatplayers could make calls. These iPhoneswere all equipped with GameBook, thelatest real-time scoring system, which,on this day, would add the same immediacyand excitement to the ING eventthat giant electronic scoreboards provideTour events.So what is GameBook? The answerto that question is two-fold. And side bets,other contests and even the scorecardsof fellow competitors are just as easilyviewed with a simple touch of thescreen.And because menus and functionshave been designed to be intuitive andeasy to use, even first-time users, likethe players in the Pro-Pro, are completelycomfortable with the GameBookwith little or no instruction.iPhones equipped with GameBook addsreal-time scorekeeping to your golf gameor tournament outingsiPhone users can download theGameBook application from The AppleStore for $20, minus some change.
