Playing in the top-8 ofthe East Regional’s all week long, the49ers closed with a sixth place tie at fourover par, just missing the trip to the finalsby one stroke at four-over par. Thetop five teams in the regional advancedto NCAA College Golf Championship.Fifth-place Virginia advanced to theNCAA finals with a 3-over par score.For Nagy, playing in his final roundas a collegian, the four-under par roundwas a fitting conclusion to a tremendouscareer. He birdied the third, fifth andsixth holes (his 12th, 14th and 15thholes) on his way in to tie for eighth individuallyat two-under par 208."It's nice to go out under par. I hadso much fun and so many great memories.I will follow the team for the restof my life. I had so much fun -- and tofinish with a 66 that's pretty good ... ofcourse I'll be very upset that we didn'tmake it and that I didn't make it, but itspretty special."Nagy, who finished with a 2-underpar total for the tournament, was vyingto compete in his fourth straight NCAAChampionship (he advanced as an individuallast year and as a team memberin 2007 and 2008), but fell short."That was a really good last day forhim," Coach Adam Pry said of his seniorstar who has earned all-America honorsin each of his first three years. "It's asolid finish to a really good year. He'llend up breaking our school (single-season)record by a full shot. That's crazy.Though the tournament didn't go as hewould have like and we didn't advance,66 is a very fitting finish. It's anotherconsistent finish -- and that's what he'sdone for his four years, here."It no secret that Nagy is turning pro,but his departure from the amateur rankswas put on hold until late June after helives a dream to represent his country ininternational competition. Nagy is oneof eight players selected to the U.S.team for the 2010 Palmer Cup will beheld June 24-26 at Royal Portrush GolfClub in Northern Ireland. The PalmerCup is a Ryder Cup-style event that pitsthe top collegiate players from Americaagainst their counterparts from Europe."It's extremely exciting," Nagy said."Obviously, any time you can representyour country it's a tremendous honor.This is unique in the sense that only ahandful of guys get to go. To be invitedis pretty special. It certainly ranks upthere in things I've accomplished atCharlotte. I feel very much honored tobe a part of the team."Nagy became the second 49ernamed to play in the Palmer Cup, but thefirst as an American player. The 49ersJonas Enander Hedin (Taby, Sweden)was named to the 2008 EuropeanPalmer Cup Team. Enander Hedin's 3 &2 victory over Georgia's Adam Mitchellclinched Europe's 14-10 victory over theU.S. Enander Hedin and Alabama'sMichael Thompson were named recipientsof the Michael Carter Award, givento a player from each side that best representsthe qualities of the Palmer Cup."After talking with Jonas, he said itwas an absolute blast," Nagy said."Ever since then one of my goals hasbeen to make it. It was pretty cool to seehim there, and to have two players onthe team make it is pretty special.
