pre ordersTHE PAINS OF BEINGPURE AT HEART- BELONGRELEASE: 28. MARS 2011ART: PIASR500CDX/LPPPD: CD4/LP6EAN: 5414939107023 / 5414939107016LABEL: PIASSPILLER PÅ ÅRETS ØYA FESTIVAL!They have come a long way since their beginnings as drum-machineequipped neophytes in March of 2007.Through a self-released EP in 2007 and a series of eagerly-receivedsingles like 2008's "Everything With You" and “Kurt Cobain’s Cardigan”the band developed an intensely loyal underground following.Upon release of their self-titled debut album in 2009, that acclaimextended to well-respected cultural tastemakers like The New YorkTimes (“sensitive and sublime, Best of 2009) Pitchfork (Best NewMusic, Best of 2009) Stereogum (“Addictive pop gold” Best of 2009)and The NME (“pure indiepop to hold close to your heart,” Best of2009).Which brings us to “Belong”. For this, their second album – and theirfirst for Play It Again Sam across Europe – The Pains of Being PureHeart have recruited the services of what, on the surface of it, seemslike two unlikely conspirators, in the form of master producer Floodand renowned mixer Alan Moulder. Only a few seconds into the titletrack however, and it makes perfect sense. Having worked with thelegendary likes of My Bloody Valentine, U2, Smashing Pumpkins andPJ Harvey (to name but a few) between them, they have opened upthe band’s beautifully self-contained sound and made it vast andmagnificent, banishing once and for all any associations to “lo-fi” andbringing it into heretofore unmapped widescreen dimensions. Not thatthey have abandoned what made them so special in the first placehowever – quite the opposite. Everything seems more vivid, morelush and spacious now; the emotion heightened, more potent. Themajestic “The Body” gallops along and goes deeper, darker thanthey ever have, painting a bleak portrait of decaying relationships,“Too Tough” is one of the most wrenching, yearning songs they’vewritten to date, while previous single “Heart In Your Heartbreak”,with its handclaps, infectious chorus and late-breaking synth stabs, sounds like the very essence of bittersweet romance.TRACKLISTING:1.
