Thisevidenced Herren’s move into modern compositional work,which brings us to The Only She Chapters – a body of musiccloser in spirit to esteemed modern compositional pieces,rather than a record built fundamentally around beats andloops. The vocals of a number of renowned female musicianshave been woven into the album’s fabric, including ZolaJesus, Shara Worden of My Brightest Diamond and the lateTrish Keenan of Broadcast amongst others.As well as these vocalists all offering their entirely distincttextures and incantations to the already unorthodox musicaltapestry, the idea of the album-as-female symbol hasextended to collaborators on the visual front, enlistingillustrator Yuko Michishita and photographer AngelCeballos. Says Guillermo, “This record is a weird one for me.The process features all women vocalists and voices and themusic was recorded very differently from how I normally work.This can be seen as a departure from other albums but it's nota departure intended to leave people feeling alienated orbaffled.
