Thesenumbers reflect an overall system decline of455 students this year compared to 446 in2010. In comparing actual figures to thoseprojected, significant pockets of difference(>20) occurred at G. R. Saunders (+23),Trenton Elementary (+21), Central ColchesterJunior High (-21), Debert Elementary (-21),Truro Elementary (-27), South ColchesterAcademy (-42). In addition to the abovetotal, CCRSB has 157 International Studentsstudying for one or more semesters, as wellas short-term international student groups.(These enrollments have yet to be audited bythe Nova Scotia Department of Education.)Fall 2011 SAC Conference Series:Fall conferences for our School AdvisoryCouncils have begun. Most of the evening isdedicated to discussion and sharing with SACgroupings of schools similar in size and gradeconfiguration. Registration and an informaldinner takes place between 5:00 and 6:00pm, followed by a conference activity andsharing session from 6:00 until 8:00 pm.When and Where:October 6 Cobequid Family, CobequidEducational CentreOctober 13 Nova Family, Hants East RuralHighOctober 17 Celtic Family, NorthumberlandRegional HighOctober 20 Chignecto Family, Springhill Jr./Sr. HighSuperintendent’s Annual Report -2010-2011 School Year:On September 14, 2011, I presented myAnnual Report to the elected members of theChignecto-Central Regional School Board.This summary of the 2010-2011 school yearcelebrated the excellent programs, services,interventions and opportunities providedfor our students by employees from alldepartments. The report gave the Board anoverview of progress made on the CCRSBStrategic Plan – A Learning Community inAction and summarized student results onthe 2010-2011 Nova Scotia assessments inLiteracy and Mathematics. The 2010-2011school year was highlighted by:1. The formal adoption of the CCRSBStrategic Plan – A LearningCommunity in Action.2. Professional development sessionsby Dr. Avis Glaze for all CCRSBteaching staff and communitymembers on Sept. 29, 30, andOct. 1.3. Education Services completing theCCRSB Instructional Frameworkthat articulates and clarifiesinstructional practices expected inCCRSB.4. The 22% Reduction PlanningExercise initiated by the NovaScotia Department of Educationthat forced CCRSB to have 18public meetings to share thedevastation to our educationsystem that such a large, three-yearreduction would cause.5. CCRSB passing the 2011-2012Budget that saw a reduction of $3.8million and further reductions of over$1 million that were re-distributed tosupport CCRSB priority initiatives.6. Some excellent results on CCRSBand Provincial assessments inLiteracy and Mathematics.The Superintendent’s office will soon bereleasing the Superintendent’s Annual Reportto Parents, Guardians and Community.2011-2012 School Year – CopingWith a $3.8 Million Reduction:As stated above, the Superintendent’sAnnual Report to the Board celebrated theexcellent educational opportunities providedto students in CCRSB. However, the $3.8million reduction has dealt a serious blow toCCRSB’s ability to provide the comprehensivearray of services, supports and interventionsneeded to sustain a balanced, comprehensivesystem of education for our students. Almost48 positions were eliminated in CCRSB,including 28 teachers. The reduction hasbegun to erode the education system in NovaScotia. CCRSB is coping with thereductions, which included:• Staffing reductions at all levels:• Central office staff• Consultants (master teachers)• Educational assistants• In-school suspension support• Classroom teachers• Administrative assistants• Building repair and upkeep• Professional development• Travel• Library• Summer School• Community Education• TechnologyWe develop independent lifelong learners in a student centered environment with high expectations for all.
