KINDERGARTEN<strong>Spokane</strong> Area Retired EducationAssociation Funds GrantWith the present economic climate, and dwindling state funds,the needs of our schools are great and on going. The <strong>Spokane</strong>Area Retired Education Association (SAREA) fully funded agrant to purchase materials to help support Active Academics:Combining Fitness and Literacy project.The purpose of this project is to get our students’ heart ratesup while reinforcing key literacy concepts. Our goal is totransform our P.E. and some class time into a multifacetedphysical/academic experience. Lessons are designed tointegrate exercise and to intentionally reinforce math andliteracy concepts at the same time. Activities are based onCommon Core State Standards, for increased understandingand retention.
