Group travel arrangements are alwaysmade, but if families prefer they make their ownindependent arrangements.Our ActivitiesThe Welton Moncé Family Twinning Group is anindependent association run by its members forthe benefit of its members. It is an entirely selffunded association and receives no external financialsupport for its activities Apart from a nominal annualsubscription of £20 per family we raise money throughsocial and entertainment activities. all funds raised aredirected to subsidising the exchange visit to Weltonby our French families. Publictransport buses provide access to Lincolnand GrimsbyOur HistoryIn 1075, William the First gave money to Remigius,the first Bishop of Lincoln, to endow six prebends inhis new Cathedral. These were named Pains Hall andBeck Hall, Rive Hall, Brink Hall, West Hall and GoreHall and the cannons, or prebendaries, were rectorsof Welton. The prebend names can be seen onplaques behind the choir stalls in Lincoln Cathedraland are also to be found in the village today as roadnames on this map.Welton today differs vastly from the time of theprebends and has developed from a small ruralcommunity into the size of a small town. Newresidential developments and shops now live alongsidethe older properties, which still cluster around thevillage green. The population has grown to around5000 and the number of properties to 1775.
