engaging local groups and other higher education institutions in environmentalissues;policy implementation;As a continuation <strong>of</strong> the five year action plan, new objectives have now been agreed forcompletion by 2015, and these include:implementing the <strong>RCM</strong>’s Transport Policy to monitor and improve methods <strong>of</strong>student and staff travel, including commuting and <strong>College</strong> business travel,encouraging staff and students to use more sustainable modes <strong>of</strong> transport;establishing mechanisms for measuring and reducing our scope 3 carbon emissions;developing and implementing a Sustainable Procurement Strategy that works tosustainability, energy efficiency and recycling through a whole life costing approach;implementing effective energy management through the newly formed CarbonManagement Strategy to ensure that targets to reduce <strong>College</strong> carbon emissions by25% are met;ensuring all estate and maintenance projects explicitly include environmentalconsiderations and liaise with architects and contractors to ensure compliance;including an environmental element to student induction, including use <strong>of</strong> recyclingfacilities and minimising energy use;continuing to raise awareness within the <strong>College</strong> community to ensure thateveryone recognises and respects their environmental responsibilities and actsaccordingly;recycling at least 70% <strong>of</strong> waste by encouraging student and staff participation in therecycling scheme;implementing a Water Management Strategy to ensure that more efficient systems<strong>of</strong> water management are introduced within the <strong>College</strong>;monitor the implementation <strong>of</strong> this policy and reporting annually to the Council.This policy and the obligations and responsibilities required by the environmentalmanagement system have been communicated to all employees and persons working onbehalf <strong>of</strong> the <strong>Royal</strong> <strong>College</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Music</strong> and is available to all students.
